how the @#%$ are you guys getting 19 + miles to the gal. I have 3700 miles on my 03 and I am only getting 15. 4 right now... ??

I'm confused... .

I am averaging about the same, my all time high is 17. 6, I have about 6400 miles on my truck now, last tank was 14. 5 all city driving.

I have seen 15 to 16 mpg on every tank with both trucks. Now with the injectors and box I see 15 to 16 mpg. Wifes truck has over 30K on it and mind has 17K. I have found if you can run at or under 2000 rpm's you will see increased mileage. But you must not drive it like you stole it.

18. 5 driving on flats going 1950 rpms. macker you should not have gotten 4. 10 if you want 18-20mpg's.

i am looking at getting a dually and it will have 3. 73's if you have the power you dont need the low gears. this is a fact!

I've got 3. 73s and mileage ranges from a low of 16 to a high of 19 empty. I average 18 in the city empty. The sixteen was pulling a 21' boat in a 40+ mph headwind. I've got ~10k miles now.

winter fuel is starting to get used in the colder climates right now, and that diesel #1 has a lower BTU output per unit of fuel compared to D#2. you will get lower fuel economy & lower power with winter fuel... :(

My normal commute is about 20 miles. Steady 45 to 50 mph. only 3 stops total in that time. I am averaging 20+ MPG.

Smooth steady starts and keeping it below 70 help economy a lot.

I run ~100 mi/day of mostly freeway. Running empty 75-77mph (the least I can go without getting run over), I am averaging a solid 17. 5. I've got about 5000 miles so far. Not bad for something that weighs 7400 pounds empty. My '97 with 3. 54's got 18-18. 5 but I had a cap on as well (nothing on the '04).

I don't see how they do it either, well at least without some real light pedal driving.

I get about 15 or so, overhead stays around 13 something. The only way I can see 18 + is if I stay under 65 and keep out of the mountains. I have babied the go pedal for some miles recently to see what happens, got over 18 mpg at 60 mph running through some two lanes with rolling hills. But, I had to really work for it. I prefer 70 + at 15 to 16 mpg.

Keep in mind I have the worst combination for good mileage.

Don't mean to start a war...oh well

Nickleinonen,

I know you're a smart guy, and I'm not trying to anger you, but actually #1 diesel has more energy content than medium (#2) or heavy diesel! The lower heating values for light, medium, and heavy diesel are: 18250, 18000, 17790 Btu/lbm, respectively.

Having said that, however, we should note that 1 lbm of #1 is of greater volume than 1 lbm of #2. Specific gravity of #1 is 0. 876 and for #2 it's 0. 920. So #1 gives you 133367 Btu/gal and #2 gives you 138225 Btu/gal.

I'm being picky, I know. :)

Took a little trip to pick up some hard wood flooring, 660 miles. Driving 70 the whole way, with my 315s and 2" leveling kit, on the way back I had a little over 1,000# in the bed. I got 18. 2 mpg. I get anywhere from 14 to 16 mpg the way a nomally use it on the farm. It all depends on how you drive it. But I am up 1 to 1. 5 mpg from my engine mods, but the tires and lift cost me about 1 to 1. 5 mpg.

Just back from an 1800 mi trip (empty) . 22. 2 MPG average for the whole trip. that included going 80 mph through Nevada/ Idaho. only had 1500 miles on truck at start of trip. I'm happy :D :D :p

maybe its cuse its an SO:cool:

We made a 450 mile trip for Thanksgiving.

Going and coming there were about 30 miles of it in 4 wheel drive at 35 to 55 MPH over the Blue Mountains. The balance of the trip was mostly Interstate at 70 MPH and 26 miles were two lane at 58 MPH.

Filled up into the neck before we left and filled to the same spot when we got home. 18 . 1 MPG. I do not consider that to bad, we carry about 800 lbs of sand bag weight.

The over head read 17. 9 so it is very close. :D

We just did a trip to southern AZ (started with 2800 miles on the truck) and going south from Denver to the border on I25 I got 20mpg according to the overhead. This was without the cruise on staying around 70-75 with a half dozen Rubbermaid containers and a dog kennel in the bed. I hit a severe cross wind from the West when I got to the NM border that dropped the average down to 16. 3mpg:{

When I got to Albuquerque I filled up and hand calculated at 16. That wind killed the mpg the rest of the way to Gallup NM where we stayed for the weekend. When we left Sunday it was cold (15*) but the wind had stopped so I reset the overhead and after about 50 miles it was back up to 19. 5mpg with the cruise on. I wonder if the cold helped the intercooler do it's job better because when we got to AZ the mileage seemed to drop again with the outside temp at 60-70*?

On the way home I was in a hurry and set the cruise for 80 and got 17. 4 according to the computer. I think the cruise really drops the mileage. I can't tell for sure but after my first oil change to Delo at 2500 miles the mileage seems to have improved about 1mpg. Maybe the break in is starting.

Thanksgiving travels were about 900 miles round trip. Trip computer showed 17. 7 for the journey. Not bad for an 8000 pound truck traveling at 72 MPH (2100 RPM). I get about 13. 5 - 14 on my lead footed daily commute of 12 miles round trip.
