Automotive MIG welding question

I can't affort anything bigger. I did hold out for full range voltage adjust rather than taps.

The specs on these two look identical. Any insights or experience with both?

Thanks!

Both are excellent machines although the blue guys claim they're a little more refined. Just be sure that it won't be too small in a year or two.

They are both good. Don't worry about the size. If you want, you can get . 035 flux core and reverse the polarity. You can weld 3/8 plate easily with that setup. I have Lincoln and Miller. Never had any trouble with any of them. Sometimes you can get better deals on Hobart. I've used them before. They were fine.

I use a Miller 175 220 volt, similar to the 135. Works great. Makes an amateur welder look like a pro after a little practice  . I have been told that Miller is better, but unless you're a professional welder and using it every day I don't think it will make much difference. Don't forget to budget for the gas, cylinder, gloves, extra wire spools, tips, helmet, cart, etc.

I bought one of those auto-darkening helmets that Miller makes, and boy are they nice! I bought the welder direct from Quimby Corporation out of Portland, Oregon. They also sell on eBay, have better prices than anyone else I could find, and they ship for free. Great people to deal with :D .

Check with an outfit called Fresno Oxygen??? or welding. They are at the Tulare farm show and have really good prices every year. Jake

I have the Lincoln at my parent's house. That's the one I am using for my air ride stuff. Little 3/8, mostly 1/4 and 3/16 stuff. Works pretty well.

I also have a Hobart Handler at work, pretty much the same size as the Lincoln. I haven't welded anything over 3/16 with that but I am sure it can handle as much at the other.

Only problem I had with either was due to my stupid head. On the Hobart the 035 tip clogged so I bought some more tips. Well, I put a 030 tip on for the 035 wire. Whoops!
