Thanks, TDR Staff

sometimes you gotta wonder what they were thinking.

unusual event.

usually depends on what they mean by engine work... if they exclude stuff like timing belts, spark plugs, coils etc I'd say might be possible.

I had a guy working with me a few years ago that had a 93' Toyota truck. It had 570K miles on the clock. The local dealership had it on loan for 6 months in their showroom, bed rust and all. They gave him a nice truck to drive while they had it.

No one in seattle is pleased with the city council. Not even the liberal dems. Its affecting their lives now. Once again, Im telling you what is going on here, not offering a solution. I could do that, but lot of folks might not like my solution.

I agree. If the timing belt/chain was not shot by 200k I would be totally surprised. The spark plugs would be nubs.

sure seems like the owner fits the CTD profile of an strict maintainer. They admitted the chain was done, and obviously it wasn't abused. We don't know what it looks like under the bra, and we all know that's a red flag.
The only thing I call bull on is the interior. I have toyotas in a fleet setting, and the interior materials really don't hold up, especially the floor mat heel pad area. There's no way a big man was that kind for that duration.
The other thing to consider, is that the truck wasn't in the rust belt. I see plenty of hurting tundras and sequoias up here.

That truck was written up well in many articles. It has had engine 'work' done but the long block is essentially unchanged from original.

It's the 4.7 V8, timing belt. It's had all the recommended maintenance at a dealer in TX. The guy is a hotshotter so he probably got in and out of the truck less than most people do in 150,000 miles.

I believe I read where the water pump and alternator had been replaced more than once, and the serp belt pulleys as well. Spark plugs of course, coolant, not sure on hoses, I think someone said one of the coil packs was replaced.

At any rate, it's pretty 'original' and a good marketing tool for Toyota.

its helps to accumulate miles if you drive long distances.
I drive 900 miles a week in order to get to my job. its all highway miles. I never buy a new car, just look for a cheap POS that is in good shape. this one had 47 k on it when I bought it in 05, paid 3500 bucks for it, drove it 260 something thousand miles.
if you don't do anything stupid like run em out of coolant or oil or get in a major accident they go a long way with little work.

this POS I drove had 313,000 on it when I ran it out of coolant on Alligator Alley at 3am. otherwise it would still be running. original struts, cv joints, transmission and engine . It would be a good advertisement for GM except nobody wuld believe you if you told em. LOL

seriously, that Cavalier only had one water pump, one alternator and one starter replaced on it.

now I'm driving this... 500 dollar Toyota. it started life with me with 226k miles on it. had to put about 700 into it. funny thing about this car is everything works on it. AC Heat, Radio, electric windows.. and its 19 years old.

I know a cav coupe like that that had well over half mil. All it ever got was hub bearings. Constantly. Daily runner from NYC to the Poconos for many years.

It's all in how the vehicle is treated.

My daughter had a 2003 Nissan Sentra SE. It was her high school car. I bought it with 225K miles on it. It came with all the service records from new. She drove it until it had just under 300K when I bought her a new car when she graduated college. I sold that car to a young lady and her boyfriend for $700. Six months later I saw the car, completely destroyed. I almost kept it but we have too many vehicles as is.
