Thought that would get some attention... My truck is VERY quiet but smooth for the first few seconds after startup when cold. The marbles in a coffe can sound comes in after about 15 to 30 seconds later. Is this something that is normal, or do I have problems?

I wouldn't go so far as saying it sounds like a Duramax..... at least the 6BTA doesn't have an "undetermined lower engine noise" like the Duramax.

Mine is relatively quiet upon startup as well... . fueling at cold startup conditions is to blame for a lot of the reduction of noise. I do know that odd fuel/air ratios on diesels will cause less noise... . as does odd timing..... both of which might be affected on a cold startup.

DBCooper,

You poor man! What did you do to get cursed with CTD that sounds like a duramax (even if it is for a few seconds).

Seriously, are your rpms where they are supposed to be during this quite period?

If they are nothing to worry about.

If they are not, mite have fuel leak some where or air mite be getting in fuel sytem.

The fuel system will purge small amounts of air out by itself.

How cold are we talking about? If fuel is a little thick it probably would keep the injector pump a little quite for a few seconds.

It's the season to be hot. ;)
