I don't hardly run my truck to the limit of rpm. When I was checking the maximum rpms, I noticed the engine sounded like it was missing when it about reached the limit of rpm [around 3k]in 4th. Also it starting smoking quite alot too.
My thought was the wastegate was opening. But I am still a little dumb here and not real sure what it was.
Could my thought be correct? or do I have a problem that I need to look into more?
The truck runs perfect normally, only when I run it up to the govener [I guess] when it does this.

Thanks guys, boy my first bill is going be high.

zzman,

What you are describing sounds normal. You are bringing the engine rpm's up to the "governed speed". Above the governed speed, fueling deceases, boost decreases and the exhaust can get smokey.
It will seem like the engine has fallen flat on its face. #ad

zzman,
Wastegate is located at turbo. The wastegate is factory set at around 18 to 20 lbs of boost. Another words when turbo is putting out 18-20 the wastegate opens and lets exhaust by pass turbo and go directly in to exhaust pipe. A wastegate allows for turbo that gives boost at lower rpm/speed and is set to open so you won't cook your pistons at higher rpm/speed. Good news wastegate can be adjusted to allow for higher boost at higher rpm/speed. Couple ways to do this.
You can raise govenor fuel rate by adjusting high idle screw. Propbably get it up to 3000 after that you will need governor spring kit.
