Missing crank position sensor (CKP)

I went to change my crank position sensor and found that the mounting hole in the block by the starter is covered by a cover plate. There is no crank position sensor or wiring pigtail anywhere to be seen. It appears to be the way it was delivered from the factory. Has anyone come across this? I have an early 2001 HO with a 6 speed.

Yeah, they did away with the crank sensor and then used the cam sensor up by the VP.

Thank you. I thought it might the case, but wanted to get a confirmation.

Yes! I think that 99 is the last year with a Crank sensor back by and above the starter.
