The new 03 2500 4x4 that I got recently does not have LSD on it and I am MISSING IT :{

I LOVE the truck, but really miss the LSD that I had on my 02 1500. I was pulling my Sea Doos out the other day and it was spinning (one wheel) quite badly - I guess that's from all that torque :D I know that I could have put it into 4WD, but I also have quite a bit of spinning when going around a right hand turn that is at a stop light on an incline.

What if any options do I have now, within reason?

Don't push down on the long skinny man so hard :(

Options

You could ad an ARB or Detroit locker on the rear end. That way you would have the best of both worlds. I like the open diff myself but there are times when a locker would be nice.

I went from a lsd to an open also. I regret it so much. Now I have to look at expensive options. An ARB is very expensive. A full locker is not as streetable as Id like. So an aftermarket lsd is the only option. A pwrlock unit is about 600 bucks. With labor you are darn close to a grand. Also Detroit released an limited slip locker recently. They are raving about it in the atv world. The problem is that it may not withstand our torque.

I've been waiting for an aftermarket locker for the 11. 5" axle but haven't seen anything yet. I think the only option is the factory LSD or I think the GM factory locker would fit since they use the same rear axle.

Not trying to torment you guys but here goes. The factory limited slip is pretty darn effective. In fact I have yet to have it fail to lock up when needed. It is pretty smooth and might be a good choice if your like me and you just need it for boat launches and such. Cant comment on its abilities for dedicated off roading.

hey RRandal, I'm in agreement with krabman about the factory lsd, compared to the dana 80 lsd, it is a much better unit that works when you need it to. As far as you going to the dealer for an lsd unit, I would avoid that since their prices would probably be double what you would pay somewhere else. I would call Reider racing or visit their web site. Their prices on lsd's have been some of the lowest I have been able to find. I have also had very good service when dealing with them. Their website is:http://www.reiderracing.com/home.htm. Their toll free number is there too.

Anyone know which version of the TracRite differetial we have in our trucks with factory limited slip? How does it work?

Thanks.

GT I think. It's a gear type limited slip like a Detroit True-Trac or Auburn Gear, so it doesn't have clutches that wear out (like the 2nd gens had I believe).

I want the EL. :)

I don't yet have my new Dodge with factory installed LSD. However, I wonder if the TracRite EL or TracRite ECV differentials would fit the Dodge/HO Cummins version of the 11. 5" American Axle. It would seem that, because both of these differentials are electronically controlled, the installation would be costly and difficult.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of our members does seriously look into installing one of these electronically controlled "variable" lockers on his new Dodge. Based on current member response to the TracRite Gt, both of these electronic, variable torque lockers might also be real winners

Best Wishes,

I guess I was just lucky. My 03 2500 has 4:10 gears and LSD front and rear. I have no problems going where I need to go.

I agree with krabman that the LSD on the '03 works well. I have had various types since 1972 and this is the only one that worked to my satisfaction.

factory lsd

The Factory lsd installed, which is a whole new axel assembly is $2100 for the 3500 srw 4x4 ho 6spd 3. 73. Asked about before girlfriend bought hers. :{ :--) :--) :--)

I really like the factory LSD. On the dually it will chirp the tires going around tight turns. I've used it in some very loose silt and traction was fantastic.

Randy's Ring & Pinion,

I don't know much about the differentials on these vehicles, but I do know that I need an LSD in my truck. This place http://www.ringpinion.com ( 888-324-9097 ) has what I need at a reasonable price, maybe they can be of help to you ??

I've never heard of an OE {front} LSD on any RAM pickup before.
