ok here goes, tonight I changed the filter and installed an oil pan drain plug kit (could have chosen a better place in the pan) reinsalled the pan put 5 quarts of fluid in the pan and ran out of time to finsh the fluid change per LBrock susgestions in a serch i found were he says to remove the cooling return line from the trans and start the engine for about 20 seconds and recheck the fluid level then repete till new fluid comes out ..... heres the ? will the torque converter back drain and contaminate the new fluid i have allready put back in the pan or am i ok to finish in the morning?

thanks in advance !

Unless you had burned or contaminated fluid, you don't need to remove any cooling lines. Just let it drain, change the filter, top it off and go. If you remove the cooling line and run it, unless you are continually adding fluid as it drains, you can do damage by letting the level get too low. Just change it every 12-15 thousand miles and don't worry about the fluid that stays in it.

Feeding fresh fluid while pumping out the old is a waste of money and oil IMO.

I have always placed the return line into a bucket, started the truck, idle in neutral till the line starts "spitting". Remove the pan/filter and allow things to continue draining till morning.

Now that I have a drain plug in the TC, I don't feel a need to do this.

Some may disagree with this method, but I've done a bunch of vehicles this way without an issue... . ever.

Further, if and when you have your transmission rebuilt or TC/VB installed... You won't immediately have oil in the TC or much else for a few seconds... until the pump circulates oil into everything.

I don't see how this is any different. If it would damage something..... how would anyone be able to install a brand new transmission that may not have ANY oil inside.

Just MO.
