Hammersley, I think you could consider this before going to extreme of pulling engine -> soak well with degreaser (engine at operating temp) let it soak in and re-apply. Blast off with a psi-washer and let sit until engine is dry. Fire it up and inspect everywhere for where the leaks are then see if you can fix in-chassis. If the tappet cover is leaking it may be due to warping along the flat block to cover surface and/or fastener hole(s). If this is the case you can flatten out with a hammer and anvil or scrap hardwood. Not sure of your situation = retired/tired, need truck to stop leaking and get back on road quick, but if you like tinkering and a really clean engine & compartment "and" have the time that takes, then pull out the heart and go for it. BTW: over the years (since 05/01) on my 99 w/240k I took care of the following oil leak fixes; gear cover gasket, balancer seal, leaking vacuum pump seal and that's it. No tappet cover leak, guess I'm lucky? Oh, another area to check is the stock LP mounting bracket to block can be a pesky one. I seem to recall when I removed my LP (and the mount) a small block Chebby fuel pump block-off plate/gasket fit well. Good luck and have fun.
