For those of you who are using Mobil 1 gear oil with a limited slip, do you still need the friction modifier? It says on the bottle that it is compatible with limited slips, but says nothing about the modifier. I know everybody has their own opinion on oil brands, but I am definately going with the Mobil brand. Thanks in advance.

With an aftermarket Auburn gear limited slip, I found that the friction modifier was still a good idea even with Mobil 1. You could "feel" the grabbing when turning corners at low speeds, especially when backing. With a factory LS, your experience may be different.

Traded... . , if it's like mine, you won't know until you put it in. I have amsoil 2000 75/90,which amsoil and almost everyone else says doesn't need modifier and I most definately had to use it. Dana 43161 (2 bottles). Craig

Traded,
Most OEM's suggest turning the vehicle in several tight figure 8's after installing any gear lube when changing fluids. You might try that before you spend the money for the additive. I have the Amsoil 2000 75W-90 in mine, and it was just fine without the additive. I did the figure 8 thing as well.

I just wonder if all the gear and motor oils aren't the same. A friend of mine drives a fuel tanker and says that at the main gas&diesel depot in Seattle Mobil,Texaco,Chevron,Shell, ect. tankers are all lined up filling from the same tanks! He has even droped his load at up to three different brands of service stations. I'll bet that all the motor, gear, hydraulic,ATF and other types of oil come from the same tanks also. Thats just my opinion,I could be wrong. Of course amsoil is different-maybe.

Traded, I just installed a Mag-Hytec conver last weekend and used Mobil 1. I didn't use any friction modifier and I haven't had Any chatter coming from the limited slip. If it starts, I'll add the modifier.
