Anyone here using this? Something like $5. 50 a quart. Roughly the same price as RP (what I use) and Amsoil. Any good?

It's the same oil as Delvac 1, according to Mobil - just repackaged for the consumer versus the heavy truck/bus market. It's an excellent synthetic for diesel engines.

Rusty

Royal purple is higher than $5. 50 around here at NAPA. I think they get $7 or $8 so if you can get the mobil 1 for $5. 50 I'd go for it. For what they get for Royal Purple, I was way ahead just to mail order Red Line.

I Checked out the Delvac MX 15-40 on the Mobil site, it has the CI-4+ rating.

The delvac 1300 Super 5-40 must be the new stuff for the 07's with a CJ4 rating.

I'm going to get a price on the MX tomorrow and compare it to the Royal Purple that I'm running now.

Mac

I saw it today at walmart for about the same price you state. I think it is the Mobile delvac 1/ "old" mobile "truck and suv" the new "truck and suv" is a gasser oil. I was very p**sed when it wasn't locally available and switched to Valvoline 5-40 extreme. The Valvoline is a 40min ride to get at Cummins but the last time I purchased, it was about $18/gallon -vs- $21. 5 for the Mobile. I wish Mobile would just make/name the damn oil and keep it available, I never would have changed oils if it had been readily available. They finally got the name right though.

If you haven't tried a 5-40 oil in the cold winter you should!!! You won't go back to 15-40 dino.

I have Schaeffer's 9000 5W-40 in my Unimog and there's a huge difference. That engine has no cold start devices and will start in 15 degree weather. It takes a bit of cranking to get the heat up but with conventional 15W-40 there is no way it could start. I'm a believer in it for sure. My VW jetta has a hard time cranking with 15W40 Redline in it.

I got the spec sheets for the following Mobil oils.

Delvac 1 5/40 Fully synthetic $33. 21 Gal, $8. 31 QT

Delvac 1300 Super 15/40 Non Synthetic CJ rating and EGR compatable. didn't bother asking for the price since it's not synthetic. Looks like this stuff is the same as Delo as far as how it stacks up on the spec sheet.

Exxon XD-3 15/40 Premium, CI rated

I was hoping to get the Delvac 1 fully synthetic for close to the same price as Royal Purple, "NOT". I can get the RP for $5. 40 QT, looks like I'll be staying with Royal Purple.

Isnt your VW jetta supposed to have 5w40 in it? I tried 15w40 in a 98 TDI years ago. The MPG dropped and it was hard to start below freezing.

Down here on the coast would we need the 5-40. I am thinking of going with synthetic in my truck. I am at 30k miles and pulled quite often. I should be good to go if I can figure out which brand to use. Oil is due for a change now!!

The Rotella T "synthetic" is a Group 3 oil - a highly refined hydrocarbon oil. The other oils you mention are Group 4 oils that use a PAO (polyalphaolefin) synthetic base stock.

Thank you Rusty. :)

NUKEMAN, I hope you do not mind if I ask questions on your thread.

I use the Rotella synthetic, and I was wondering how it stacks up to the group 4 oils, as far as change intervals etc. I am assuming that it would be almost as good, eh ?

Not a problem.

I just bought 2 cases (12 qts. ) of the Mobil for $64. 80. Gonna give it a try.
