OK, I know I'm going to be changing the turbo, injectors, and fuel plate, since I owned a 95 175 horse truck and it was a total dog. My question is what should be done to the pump? I know its different inside than a 215, can I crutch it along w/ delivery valves, GSK and a fuel plate or is the truck going to run like crap? Should I send it off to Scheid diesel or something? I want to be at or above 400HP and be able to tow about 6K, the motor has 145K on it now and is stock. I'm going to have the front cover off to tab the dowel pin, should I slide a cam in while I'm at it too? This is either going in a '80 Chevy K20 or my 93 W250, either way it'll be 5 sp. Thanks for any suggestions-Nick

seems like the 160 dosent allow the proper fill rate for the bigger injectors and you get the lope off idle. Sending it out sounds like a good idea if you want to make over 400 easily.

Who's had good experience w/ what pump shop? Scheid is relatively close to me... Should I just start w/ a 215 pump, or will this be relatively inexpensive(compared to buying a 215 pump)?

Heard good stuff about piers diesel or JR adkins i believe does pump work. Garmons diesel is another. a re-man 215 is about 1300 plus 1000 core from alot of shops like industrial injection, dont mess with the ones on ebay...

Scheid

Had a 160 pump off a 1995 auto upgraded by Scheid recently. The difference is night and day. We don't even have the fuel plate slid all the way forward and he easily hits 62 psi with his current turbo. The 4k gsk was in the pump for over a year before the upgrade.

PM me for details.

I talked to a performance guy in IN a year ago about upgrading my 160 vs buying a 215 and having it put on a pump stand. Which route is best depends on your long-term goal (remember the addiction is a strong one).

From what I remember, the 160hp pump can be set up to provide enough fuel for 450-500 hp without 13mm P&B. Cost to go on the stand and make the adjustments was around $500. To swap the pump cam was around $500 if that's what you need. Compare that with buying a stock 215 for $12-1300 and then put it on a stand for an additional $500. Granted the 215 has a lot more potential, but if you don't need that capability, you don't have to spend the money.
