can u take an inline pump and install it onto a pre 1994 engine?

what is needed for a change?

costs?

has anybody done this before?

what is the same between the engines?

thanks

Yes it can be done. PDR and I are doing this with my truck with a twist. 12v p7100 pump with a 24v head and pistons.

You would have to change a lot.

Pull front gear cover, cam gear or gear and cam together, remove gear case and reinstall 2nd gen gear casing, p7100 pump with gear, 2nd gen inj lines, brackets, throttle/transmission lines, lift pump, fuel filter housing and some small stuff.

You can leave the 1st gen head on the truck, but they don't flow like a 2nd gen head so without changing it for a 2nd gen and modifiy 2nd gen intercooler into truck with 2nd gen boost pipes and hoses you won't be taking advantage of more power. Don't forget replacing transmission if its a std and if its a auto you would have to have it built right.

As you can see its not a small job. Better off replacing motor/trans with 2nd gen if you aren't going radical.

Cost. I'll leave that one alone.

How do the 2nd gen heads flow better- bigger ports, bigger valves?

Would the use of a 2nd gen head require a different cam?

Does a ported 1st gen head flow more, the same or less than a stock 2nd gen?

Where would one find the flow rates of the different heads, innercoolers, turbos etc?

Where does the VE pump max out in all this?

I've been wondering about this a lot lately :D Wish I knew more

2nd gen heads have a better chamber/bowl design from what I know.

No you don't have to install a 2nd gen cam.

I would guess a 1st gen ported head most likely flows about the same as a stock 2nd gen head. Again as far as I know. Can't back it up with numbers only here say.

Good luck getting flow rates as they tend to be kept between venders.

Were does the VE 44 max out. Good question.
