After my accident with the 94, the ins adjuster was sure I had a lift kit on it, I suppose so he could void the policy. (he was insistant and not just making conversation) I told him to check with the dealer, that it was/is a stock suspension.

Now that I have a new truck, this might be my mule, trail rat, beater, etc. I'm thinking I'd like to add traction bars, which are also named as no no items in the Progressive policy. I'm curious what other people have done. Do other companies not worry about such aftermarket performance items? Or do people just not worry about it and hope it's never an issue?

Needless to say, I'm glad the truck wasn't plastered with performance goody decals, and that the guages are less obvious in their former ashtray location. (HP enhancements also a Progressive no no) Not that I have anything... . :D

I also was told by Progressive my add ons wree not covered unless I paid for another policy. Told them fine I can buy the stuff cheaper than I can pay for their insurance. I have a good friend in the ruck accessory buisness.

I'm not concerned about coverage of the parts themselves. I agree replacement is prob cheaper than insuring them in the long run. I would like to not have my coverage on the truck voided just because of a few add ons, though.

State Farm takes pictures of my truck when I go in for a claim - specifically so that the parts are covered in case of a loss! All aftermarket parts are covered at replacement value. First time I took a heavily modified truck in there they said "looks like you've put a lot of time and money into this, let me take pictures for your file so everythings covered".

hmmmm... . This is worth looking into.

I was worried that if I ever wrecked the truck, that they would only replace the truck and not $20K worth of accessories, bombs, mods, etc. I called and it was around $75 per year extra for $12K worth of aftermarket goodies coverage. Even over a 10 year period ( $750 - $1000 assuming it will go up ) it may be worth it, if I ever wrecked the truck.

Anyone ever look into this?

I have Mercury Insurance, and they cover accessories ONLY if they are listed as such in/on the policy. Like Steve's agent, mine has photgraphed the truck and will cover what is listed and documented.

Lifted trucks are a whole nother issue. He said that if I lift the truck more than 2" ( I think- can't remember for sure) that the policy changes and gets more costly. If the truck is lifted a lot- as in no longer legal, that the policy would be voided. Lifted trucks cause extensive and severe damage and injury when they impact aabove the bumpers of regular vehicles, and they are no dummy's about knowing it. If they can find an out, they will.
