What mods has anyone done that has been successful for both unladen performance (no trailer) and towing (max GVWR). My truck is still currently stock. Looking at mods that can be turned off while towing my 16000 lbs 5th tow hauler if need be and turned on if egts are okay. All upgrades are exceptable just looking for others that have been down the road up the hill and not melted down. BTW I live in hilly country. Not much flat land around.

I'm running 22,000 GCVWR over very hilly terrain with an Edge EZ and haven't hurt anything yet on either my '03 or '99. Normally, most of the heavy pulling is the '03 which has a manual transmission. 22K is a bit on the high side, and I'd worry about that much with the auto in my '99.

On my '99 I couldn't get the EGT's over about 1200. Not sure of the EGT's on the '03 as I've been waiting on the Edge Attitude. Waiting, waiting, waiting... ... .....

From what have have read would it be reasonable to exspect the 600 to run hotter?

Another issue is how much more power the stock clutch can handle with the truck maxed out at 23000 lbs. My friend has a 02 H0 6spd extra cab short bed 4x4 and with 80 horse injectors and 60 horse bully dog chip his clutch has all but given up. That is without ever towing heavy .

Looking to do everything right the first time without wallet R&D!

Not sure if the '03 and later trucks have stronger clutches, but so far mine hasn't given me any hint of trouble. I only have about 35,000 miles on it of which about 10,000 has been twoing heavy.

I suspect that I am borderline as far as the clutch is concerned, but as long as it works fine I'm not going to worry. If/when the clutch does need to be replaced it is not that big of a job, and I think there are several heavy duty aftermarket clutches available. They will handle a lot more than what we are doing.

The stock HO 6 speed has a higher plate load than the previous years. Peter at SBC already tested this last year. Disk is the same.

With that much trailer, adding power will necessitate some gauges, to keep everything in check. But, if you are not looking to upgrade other items, then stick to something like an EZ. What gears in your dually? 4. 10's or 3. 73's?

Jim,

Just wondering if your 03 is a dually, SRW or a 2500?
