Im new to the 6.7 with all of the EPA crap. My 2nd Gen was easy to bomb but this one has me a little scared. I Live in Washington state & the 2007 model & newer we do not have to run emissions on so it makes bombing & deleting pretty easy. But....In 2.5 years I retire & plan on moving to the desert of Socal. I have ordered & planned on doing the following.
1) Full delete & Race Me tuner. Ordered, shipped & should receive this Friday.
I heard today of emissions standards road blocks to check if your vehicle is in compliance? Are there any California members verify this type of thing?
When you go to register an out of state vehicle do they do a under the truck inspection and a under the hood inspection for emissions?
I'm thinking I may send the delete pipe back with the Race Me tuner & just pick up a Smarty & not have to deal with the BS that surrounds being in compliance....
I'm beginning to think I should have kept my 2nd gen....SMH.

Thanks,
Clay

Comifornia is to risky to delete, even after you have had it first smog checked in the stock form. I would have deleted a long time ago, if it wasn't for AQMD and the every two year smog check. Even though the smog check is nothing more than a CEL check through the OBDII port and a visual conformation of smog equipment, they still check for smoke through the throttle. If your deleted and it smokes just a little with a 6.7, its a dead giveaway. I have personally seen the CHP and DOT set up an inferred and measure smog as all vehicles passed through. They do spot checks as I've heard from time to time, but I've never seen one. BTW your 2nd gen would not pass the RAP test, if its bombed.

I'm running EFILive on my 07 C&C 6.7 CTD, and it passed smog, but you'll notice more frequent regen cycles. Good luck with your choices.

You would be surprised. Passed with flying colors in Washington state with the Smarty on half power. I always giggled when I tested. Soot on the fender but passed everytime .....The things we entertain ourselves with! Sounds like it'll stay stock.

My suggestion is to visit a Dealer (Dennis Dillon in Boise maybe) and drive away with a 2017. Be sure to get the Aisin transmission! 3.42's and the Aisin makes for a real freeway cruiser that easily tows to is 17K rating(we are towing 16K). I loved my 2001.5 and miss it's spirited performance, HOWEVER the new trucks you just get in and drive. We drove home for Christmas 1550 miles towing a cargo trailer in three days and return with it loaded in three days. Long trips are so nice in the new trucks. We bought ours in Greeley, Co and were home 1400 miles and 48 later with motel receipts to two nights. Left dealer at 12:25 PM on a Monday and we were in the driveway at home on Wednesday at 12:25 PM. Cruising 80 MPH is like a Sunday drive. Learned a lot about the truck in those first 48 hours. We have 23K on it in less than 16 months. 2.5 round trips between NW and Arizona. Love It! SNOKING

A little off subject, sorry OP, but a 3500 with a 3:42 differential, is an Oxymoron. No mater what trans you couple the 6.7 CTD in any HP version in a 3500 is not supposed to be a hi-way cruiser. It's supposed to work hard for you when you need a capable truck. Get a 2500 if you want a hi-way cruiser. The 3500 SRW or DRW Aisin should be equipped with a 4:10 diff and use the overdrive's as they were meant to be used as.

Sorry SNOKING, but I had to get that off my chest, most chose the 3500 SRW to get the Aisin auto and avoid the dually, but Dodge should option the Aisin with the 2500.

^^^^^ I have owned both. Combined weight up to 27-28K stick with 3.42's since 5th is about the same RPM as 4.10 in 6th. Now not towing you have the long legs and the better economy to go with it. Heck you can cruise at 103 only turning 2,300 RPM. Aisin is the secret.

Over those numbers the 4.10 is da ****!

Until you drive and tow with a SRW 3500 with Aisin, you do not know what you are talking about. I thought I wanted lower gears in a SRW 3500 until I bought one. I tow 16K with a combine weight of 25,500. Works great! Cruise at 80 at 1750 RPMs getting better that 18 MPG.

That's my story and I am living it, just not talking about it.

Maybe it's the Aisin that makes the difference, but I too lived with the 3:42 diff, but the trans was the 68rfe in a 2014 2500. BTW, the entire rear diff had to be rebuilt at @ 15K miles and it was 10 days at the Dealer. I still would order the 4:10's and Aisin in a DRW. My current Dodge truck has the 3:73 and G56, and wished it was the 4:10 and Aisin. With barely over 60K miles on my 07 C&C, there's no need to spend 55K on a new truck. Especially since it was paid for the day I took delivery of it. I don't need to pay $800+ per month to find out.

Ahh I see so same as here in australia, I always thought things were a bit easier going over there, going by what I see on youtube of rolling coal behemoth's

There is legal and there is LEGAL. ;) Furthermore, enforcement efficacy is a product of the income stream generated and how loud the squawking is. Kinda like enforcing the who and where of border crossings, it works much better with natural barriers.

If you're REALLY coming to Kalyforrnya for retirement and I CAN'T talk you out of it then the first thing you need to do is pick where in the desert you plan on living and see if it's a smog exempt area. If so then you'll still need to be smogged to register it (it's a full obd, cel and I/M status test, visual and snap test so you can't be deleted at that time) and then do the tuning and deletes.
As for the random inspections, yes I can confirm it because one pops up 3 miles from my house and I have to be careful not to ever go that way. It is a "voluntary" inspection but I haven't heard of anyone who has told them "no" so I can't say what the repercussions are.

There's a lot more of Arizona that doesn't have smog testing than Kalyforrnya and compared to Kalyforrnya it's considered a free state so I encourage you to consider it instead of here.
If you do decide on coming to Kalyforrnya then I say welcome, misery loves company...

Arizona only does smog testing in the Phoenix and Tucson areas. Rest of state doesn't check. Much better for lots of things than commifornia.
