Hello all. I was looking at buying a 94 12v 5 speed truck but it has 243K on it. My simple question is how well will the engine take to modding with this many miles? I know they will go for 400K+ miles, but to already have this many miles before upping the power how will it take it?

These are the mods I plan, nothing too crazy-

Obviously clutch first, more below about that... .

4'' exhuast

#10 plate

300 injectors

3KGSK

Will delivery valves help with this setup? Really all I want is 300 RWHP/700 torque. That should pull anything I want with ease. Possibly a turbo upgrade if EGT's get too hot with all that fuel but I think the HX35 can handle it. I'm well aware that I will need to upgrade the clutch before any mod other than exhaust is put on. Now I saw a website saying that the con O was good for 350 RWHP, is this true or BS? It's less pricy at $650 and seems like all I would need. The other option is the Luk cerametallic from dialaclutch but you have to convert to 13'' to do it and the kit is $1000, I'm not interested in spending that much if the con-O is all I need for these mods listed.

Any advice or comments are sincerely appreciated and welcome.

It should be fine at that many miles adding alittle power.

No the HX35 wont keep the EGTs down or atleast for me it hasn't.

Thanks!

I think the 370's are your problem with EGT's, they have a bad spray angle because they are marine injectors and aren't meant for these engines. Thats what my bro tells me anyway. He got 375 RWHP and 790 torque with his 02' 24 valve on the stock HX35 at 42 PSI boost with EGT's in check, granted it won't last long though LOL.

mods and mileage

Minor mods at 260k, ran fine but original A. T. went as little later. more mods at 675k still runs great. working on 2nd DTT trans, approching 750k, uses 1 qt oil between oil changes a 8k. This has been the result of good maint. so if you know the history of this truck it should be fine. Stormy

Almost 205k on the clock right now. Started the fuel BOMBs around 175k. Still doesn't use any oil, and getting better mileage than when stock (at least before the flatbed went on). Need to advance the timing yet. It has slipped some.

You will need more turbo. HX35 won't be enough. IIRC, the 300 injectors are for the marine application as well.

I bought my truck at about 230k and at about 335k now. Makin around 450 or so. Truck doesn't burn any oil, it leaks a little but I am workin on that. I get anywhere between 17 and 22 mpg. I think you will be fine. Just keep up w/ maintenance and what not and good luck.

didn't know that, thanks for that heads up. On the listing where I was looking at it said 370's were marines but didn't say that for the 300's. Oh well, maybe I'll just find some 215 injectors and put them in for cheap.

All I really want is 300 RWHP, nothing too crazy... the stock HX35 turbo can't handle that?

Cool. The most I would haul would be 8000 pounds, we have a lot of hills around here but very few long steep grades. I would almost never be going up a hill for more than 10 seconds so I'm not really worried. Thanks for your post!

Don't know about the injectors or plate. Put a 4 in exhaust and 3KGSK on mine and mileage seemed pretty much a wash. Did have a 2mpg increase but believe that was mostly due to new transmission.

I put my Banks Kit on @ 50K. Changed injectors and turbo @ 180K. I now have about 210K on truck it runs better than ever and still uses very little oil.
