Molybdenum?

i am going to switch from rottela to delvac 1300 or delo 400 do eather of these two motor oils have moly? how much? Rotella has none so i am switching. i know pennzoil has moly but they used hydro cracked oil which i garbadge but i dont know how much moly is in eather of these two oils if any? can anyone help?

The MDSS for Delo says it releases oxides of Calcium, Molybdenum, Nitrogen, Sulfur when on fire, I would assume that means it contains those elements.

I am in for a swap before to long read about moly in oil it sounds really good. the bad points i have heard would not scare me away. it holds agianst a shear force of 500,000#'s:--) nice for cam lobes and upper rod bearings. lug all you want with moly dont need the film of oil anymore... ..... just kidding... but to a certain extent this is true.

Your post got me wondering about moly so I read quite a few articles. Here's what I came up with:

Most good oils contain moly

Only thing I came across that said moly was bad was in motorcycles where the clutch is lubed by the engine oil.

Don't add moly to your oil, use oil that comes with it, it needs to be in precise quantities suspended correctly or it can fall out of the oil and cause plugging.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the new 03's require a CI4 rating on it's oil. Delo 400 does not support that grade...

I know one thing...

Red Line's 15W-40 is absolutely loaded with molybdenum. My first oil analysis report stated that my molydenum was extremely high! Not necessarily a bad thing though.

i guess it is down to delvac. so how much moly does delvac have in it. i like redline but i want to use dino oil cheap. b/c i change my oil every 3500 miles.

First of all why do you state hydrocracked oils are garbage. Delo is one such oil also.



The last virgin oil analysis I had seen of either the Delvac 1300 or the Delo 400 neither had moly in them.



I don't want to discredit the benefits of Moly, as I think it has it's advantages, but most diesel oils are loaded with other extreme pressure additives, which many gasser oils are short on, so the moly in diesel oils may not be as beneficail as in some gassers.



You must have been surfing a Schaffeurs oil site as this is the only site I see such a huge emphasis on moly
