Chevy 6 speed

no power

The wife fell in love with a 02 Beetle TDI. We went up to the big city to buy it off the kid. He works at a major Dealership In Springs. I told her that large dealerships do not pay attention to detail or prep. She relayed this to my son, who said "Dad is full of it"! Took a day off to go and pick it up yesterday, it took them all day to prep it. Then when I started to look it over found a frayed belt, aircleaner box on crooked, and bottom panel not installed properly! He was one mad hummer! Hate to say I told you so(Ha Ha, right!). We will have to go back next week to pick it up.

It is a sweet little car, it only has 15000 miles, runs great, super clean.

I think your wife will like the NB TDI. Is it auto or 5spd?I have a 01 with about 59000+on it and very few problems. Nothing major. Best mpg I have got is close to 53:D I bought mine just to commute to work 144 miles round trip. Have not been driving it to much lately timing belt:mad: change is coming up at 60000.

My wife has one, it's a decent car. I don't particularly care for it, other than it's great on fuel economy. It's just a cheap thrown together junker to me, but runs like a champ. I only gave 12k for it, and put down half, so it's a cheap alternative to a gas hog SUV so i'm happy.

Maintenance on them it absolutly horrible, VW has their head stuck way to far up... . ok i hate VW, always have, always will. Buy a service manual, you'll need it. My wife's is a 2001, i've already had to dive into it a couple times. Weird electrical problems.

5 Speed

It has the 5 speed. I for one think the workmanship is as good or better than the boys Ford Focus. I think the big problem is that not many know how to work on them. I am going to get on that TDI page. Looks the same as TDR for VWs. Lots of good info. :D

Going to love the mileage. :D

you'll love all the "special" tools required too. Another VW act of brilliance. I think they engineer the car to not be maintained by the buyer. The transmission... automatic... has to be filled at the dealer with a computer, i was about ticked off when i found that out.

Fortunatly your getting the 5 speed, very dependable clutch and transmission. I wanted one, but my wife needed the luxury of the auto because of her job.

TDIclub is a very valuable resource, helpful guys with vast knowledge... and its free!

After

After seeing what it takes just to do a timing belt change, it looks as if it will go to VW for that! Man 500 for the tools and 550 for them to do it. They will do it. :p

I had to stop by the service department the other day for a switch that i broke off (the heated mirror switch, really nice how it sticks out for ya to catch something on. ) Anyways the parking lot was FULL of VW's, i couldn't beieve it. They all had tags in the mirror too, then walk inside and peer out in the bay and cars are everywhere being worked on. VW service departments must just eat it up, i bet most were there for simple problems, but perhaps a few "large" ones. The timing belt thing is pretty silly, i think it's a little often at 40k for my model, but oh well.

When seeing how involved an oil change is it ticks me off as well, all this plastic crap and what not. The filter thing is silly as well. I think my loathing for VW is really shining through here.

We took a TDI and machined out the head so that we could fit HUGE injectors in it. THen we went out and did soot shows for everyone that was behind us.

We made white cars black and black cars dirty. Man... it was the BOMB, baby!!!

:D :D :D

TDI's can soot nicely! Perhaps you should bomb the thing and run the biggest injectors you can find for smokeshows:D
