I (still) have a 2000 2500 Cummins. Anyone that has had a 2nd Gen knows the issues associated with fuel pressure.

With this new 2017, I have found that they have instrumented (in the dash menu) some of the things that I had pillar gages installed for on my old truck (Boost/EGT, Trans Temp), but nothing for fuel pressure.

I may be overly paranoid because the weakness in the system on the 2nd Gens VP44, but was wondering what others are doing to monitor fuel pressure. (on both sides of the IP)

Don't worry about it. The system is much better than your 2000 and the failure rate is very low on the new trucks. The CP3 can pull up to 20 inches of vacuum unlike your 24v that had to have a lift pump. Filter service is still important.

I made the 2G to 4G jump a few years ago and remember these feelings/paranoia that you are dealing with:)....although I don't think I had it as bad as you....:) These new are trucks are smart, light years away from the 2G trucks. You just don't need to all the babysitting like we did back in the day. Relax and sit back and enjoy the ride.

My paranoia comes the hard way - from actually losing an IP
When I installed the new IP - I installed gauges
(along with tossing the fuel pump mounted to the side of the engine and installing a Walbro frame mounted pump)

While I never fried a VP44, I did get to change the lift pump on the side of the road in some podunk farming town in the Central Valley one time......:-laf my FP gauge did save the VP though. With all the electronics, modules, computers, etc. on these new trucks, fixing them on the side of the road is a thing of the past......

I actually carry a spare Walbro pump under the seat. I've had to replace it twice.
