Late snow

Anyone?

My wife came home today with a box of cookies called a moon pie. I had never heard of them. They were terrible. Has anyone ever had one ? And did/do you actually like them ? She says she remembers them from when she was a kid, and says they taste about the same.
She wont eat these either.

I remember MoonPies from decades ago. They were sweet, crumbly and somewhat edible. A couple years ago we ran across some in our vacation travels, so the wife and I, using our youthful memories of the chocolate or yellow frosted cookie-cake-like large hockey puck thingies, purchased a bunch for the kids and grand kids. When we got home we tried them before dividing them out to everyone. To be polite, they were downright nasty, at least to us. A couple of the grandkids seemed to like them...to play catch, or fetch, with their dogs. Tasted like reconstituted sheetrock dust and lightly sweetened Plaster of Paris.

Yeah my 4yr from time to time gets some crazy ideas, she's not too adventurous but we have our fair share of oh that looks good have to try it. And I get stuck trying these out.

Most recent was we ran out of little chocolate pieces to make smores, she eats the parts separate mostly the marshmallows, and then mine marshmallow as well, so she was convinced to try peanut butter on the Graham cracker with the marshmallow. It was a mess but can't go wrong with marshmallows, PB, Graham cracker.... only time she wanted that.

One time many years ago much younger and smarter then now at the bar I was convinced I wanted a Vodka and Pepsi..... bar tender was like I think you want rum and coke,,,, nope gotta have it my way....... yeah sometimes you get what you ask for.

But moon pies can be very dusty and I like the sheetrock description....

They're not bad, just never one of my favorites. The marshmallow was too chewy. Probably better warmed up like WD says, we just didn't have microwaves when I was a kid.

I'd much rather have had a Goo Goo.

Funny how we like(d) things that when analyzed may not be all that good. Used to get one for a nickel and a Frosty root beer for a nickel and was a happy kid. Another favorite was Bruce's fried pies, but they were 15 cents.

Pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters sure got a workout back then...Five and Dime stores in every town. The dimes, quarters, half-dollars and silver dollars had a beautiful, resonate silver ring when they hit the counter, unlike the clunk and thwap of today's slugs...and the snacks were made with real ingredients, not synthesized mystery materials.

In the 90's RC came out with RC Draft. It only came in a brown long neck bottle. They were GOOD. Evidently, they only made them a few months.

A Moon Pie and an RC Cola was something my dad talked about from when he was a kid. You can't eat one without drinking something, a lot of something!

The old RC Cola in tall greenish bottle...sitting on the door step of the local general store with a bag of Laura Scudders chips and RC in the dead of summer in southern Ohio. Were those the days? Uh...maybe:D

You know another thing that's funny is picking money up off the ground... to this day, I'll still stop to pick up a penny... must have been that old saying "A penny saved is a penny earned!"

How many of ya'll picked up soda water bottles and turned 'em in for a refund on the deposit. Too bad we can't do that today with everything... we'd solve a lot of today's littering and recycling. I used to have a wooden Coke crate wired (with clothes hangers) to my lawnmower. I had a gallon metal can wired to the handle. Has about 10 residences and one mom and pop motel I mowed every two weeks. I was a money making rascal.

We live out in the country, but a lot of years ago, kids quit coming by to cut grass... now you have to cut it or have a lawn service do it.

Anhoo, I'm reminiscing whilst consuming beer.

Cheers, Ron
