Moon roof was completed without a hitch. Looks great, works great, just like a factory install. Congratulated the company on what good work they did and then I see it... My bumper is pulled out about 2" on the drivers side and the the cover is pulled loose from the 3 mount bolts in the fender well :--) . I noticed because the bumper space was a little farther distance from the headlight than the left side. I inspected the shop thoroughly to see what it could have been damaged on and found nothing. The shop owner was great about it and let me look around anywhere until I was satisfied it was not his fault. I guess the only other thing is somebody may have caught it in the parking lot the night before? Don't know... guess it had to happen sooner or later, just wish it was later. But on the good side the moon roof is awesome!:D

It's a Webasto Hollandia, Model - Stratos TVS 749. Price out the door including tax and installation was $1195. 00. (this is not a sunroof! for those who don't know the difference). Also came with 3yr warranty.

I am not affiliated with Webasto in any way, just providing information.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's the difference between sunroof and moonroof?

Is the moonroof just a selfcontained, power sunroof? (no glass panel to remove and have to stash?)

The moon roof is electric and either pops up like a normal sunroof or completely retracts back into the roof where no glass is visible. Also there is a cover that can be slid forward when the glass is closed that covers the glass and makes it look like you don't have a sunroof (from the inside). Mainly used on gloomy days. If you do a search for Webasto Hollandia you can find there website. They have a few pictures (not real good) but you can get the general idea. I'll post some pictures myself when I get a little smarter:rolleyes:

I have always been under the impression that a sun roof is body color, painted sheet metal that can partially or totally retract to let the sun (or whatever) shine in.

A moon roof is a glass panel replacing what would normally be considered a sun roof. Later versions of the moon roof added the feature of an interior retractable sun shield used primarily when the sun is high in the sky and posing a thermal and/or optical nuisance. The moon roof panel can be retracted, removed or opened and tilted upwards (at the rear edge) allowing filtered light while also allowing fresh air into the interior.

I haven't heard of a sun-roof being painted sheet metal. Then again I'm no expert. I'm just used to seeing the standard manual pop up sunroof and the moon roof is electric and retracts into the ceiling completely hidden.

Think of the old Volkswagen Beetles. The sun roof (as named on the MSRP sticker) was a small painted sheet metal roof section that disappeared via manual crank into the roof.

When the moon roofs (aftermarket at first) hit the streets they were glass (deep tinted glass... some were also mirrored)... they could be opened manually, popping them up in a canted position or totally removed.

The later renditions were (are) electrically operated with the additional features previously detailed.

That's my take on this.

BTW, I used to have what was referred to as a "moon roof" in my brand new '79 VW Scirocco. This was exactly as stated in the second paragraph above.

The terminology may have changed since then however, that IS the way it was back in the '70s.

I'm open for any enlightenment. :D

Herbie!!!!!!!

You won't receive enlightenment from me, as I said I'm no expert.

(especially on products way back then):p

All I know is it looks good :D
