Durango about to go boom?

What type / brand oil for road ranger

Because of the lovely fuel prices#@$%! I am planning on replacing my '92 CTD with a car and was thinking about getting like an Intrepid with a 2. 7 V-6.

Just wondering if anyone has one and if this engine is notorious for any issues? I am hoping it is a 200K engine like the 3. 3 V-6 was. Is 30 mpg realistic in a Intrepid, Concorde or 300?

Thanks,

Paul

I have heard that the 2. 7 had some issues with failing head gaskets. As for getting 30mpg, I have personally gotten as high as 29mpg in our '97 LHS with the 3. 5DOHC. Since it is the same chassis and drivetrain setup, I would think that is pretty reasonable if you drove it right. We see 22+ just running around town and to work. I should also mention this car is a worn out POS that I bought off a college kid for $200. A well maintained car might do better.

RUN don't walk away from this engine. These are very prone to sludging the oil, and unless it was meticulously cared for, they can destroy themselves in short order. They have come in to the shop seized, with broken connecting rods, blown head gaskets, and even one with a broken crankshaft! This is definitely one of Chrysler's blunders. On the other hand, the 3. 3 and 3. 5 were great engines.

What Dodge -Tech says is right on. Those engines were great boat anchors. There was a web site about those engines & I can't find it now, go to your internet browser & search for Chrysler V-6 engines sludge problems & you should find a lot of info about them.

I found the web site for the problems with the sludge in the V-6 engine. www.dodgeproblens.com/Intreped/oil-sludge-engines-failure.shtml That will tell you all about the engine & it's problems.

I can not get that site to come up. I have a 2000 with the 2. 7 with 109767 mile on it and it is starting show signs of value seal wear. We get 32-34 mph highway and around 20 around town. That little engine will move out good . I

've heard that it is bad on sluge, but I run Amsoil and have not had any problem yet. Keeping mt fingers crossed.

Sorry I am late... THANKS for the replies!!! I never realized the probs of the 2. 7!

Any thoughts about the 2. 4L 4 cylinder like in a Stratus for example?

Thanks Again,

Paul

Watch for head gasket leaks with the 2. 4. If you see any signs of leaking, get it fixed ASAP. The big issue with that motor is the head warping.
