I did about an hour search with no results. Does anyone know who provides the Mopar brand oil ? Dodge dealers have done all the oil changes since my truck was new, but the last one they wanted to pump it out of a bulk tank. Not.

They still have the gallon jugs of Mopar, but I have to ask for it and pay more.

If I knew who made it, I'd quit going to them. I change at 3-4 k with Mopar filters, partly for the dealer computer proof of service, but I'm at 145 k on the clock and not preoccupied with dealer records any more.

Thanks for any help, Tom

JUst curious but why does it matter? You're out of warranty! Why not run Rotella or something else easy to find? I have 167,500 miles on my 01 and I would have no problem changing oil brands right now. Pretty much they are all good.

When I had the dealer doing my oil changes one used Rottella and the other one used Valvoline. Apparently since then they have come up with their own diesel oil.

I highly recommend using Valvoline or Mobile oil. Everyone has their own opinion on what brand of oil to use. I use to use Rotella until I changed over to Valvoline. . I like the Valvoline due to it seems to stay cleaner longer than the Rotella. . I also did notice a slight fuel mileage increase with the Valvoline. . It was only 1mpg but when your turning 500 RWHP everybit helps. . I have a friend who uses Mobile and he swears by it. . But again this is my opinion. Dealers usually use whatever oil the oil company supplies them with it be it Quaker State, Valvoline, Castrol etc...

Thanks to all. The main reason I wanted to know was that I didn't want to change brands, but sounds like there was never just one brand anyway. In searching the archives, it appears that Shell, Mobile, Valvoline, etc were all good as long as they were diesel rated. Everyone swore by the one they had been using. Fleets also used a variety of oils with good results. I'm too old-fashioned to switch to synthetics and go with long change intervals.

I do know that I won't be taking oil out of a 250 gal. bulk tank. Any of you fellers that get oil changed at a dealer or oil change place might watch to see what they are putting in your trucks.

I just finished overhauling a 4kw diesel generator that was sunk in Katrina, and I put Rotella T in it. It will travel with us, so I'll probably put Rotella in the Cummins too.

This is one fine website. Thanks again, Tom

I was changing Delo at 5k intervals. Now running 10k on Rotella fully synthetic while still changing filter lf3552 at 5k.

I too was old fashioned and a bit worried about the 10k intervals. So I ran an oil analysis and found the oil did not need changing at 10k.

Reason for changing to synthetic. Joined the volunteer fire dept. and the engine only gets to idle for 1 minute (long downhill driveway) then runs hard.

My preferance is Mobile Delvac, have used it since first oil change because I was told by Cummins Mech not to use Valvoline in 5. 9. Started out to use Rotello T but when I opened a gal I found that it was water and oil mixed, milky white.

I was told that every new cummins sold has valvoline premium blue in it when it leaves the factory.

I run premium blue also, it costs more, but I dont get any smell with it like I do with rotella/delo.

Exactly what are you referring to by "smell?" BTW, I was in Los Lunas about 6 weeks ago on vacation. Stopped by on the way to El Paso from Abq. Went to the Tractor Brewery :D

Ive ran rotella for a while, Delo once, and coastal once. All of them had an odd smell after like 3,000 miles. Just an annoying smell when at a stoplight with the windows down, etc. I assume coming from the breather (mine has more blowby than typical:-laf ). The valvoline doesnt do that for some reason. I dont know why.

Ribs/Tractor Brewery is awesome!! So are the "waiting staff":-laf .

You were about 27 seconds from my house if you were there. I live about 1/2 mile directly west of Ribs, on the south side of main street.

I ran Valvoline All Fleet Plus until the parts store I was getting it from brought in a no-name brand oil so I switched parts store and use Premium Blue now ( VAlvoline supplies it /Cummins formula)

I run amsoil 15w-40 in my truck and tractors. Truck gets drained every 20k or one year and tractors are 100hrs or 1 yr. One one of my tractors i've used RotellaT and it seems good.

Oil analysis on both have been good. So, i'm sticking with it.

At this point, I only let the dealer do the inspection on the truck. The rest is on me or a select one at this point.

Depending on your climate, you might want to look at synthetic or not...

Anyway, good luck.

My dealer let's us bring our own oil and filter and then they change it while only charging for the labor. I find the following advanatages:

- It saves money, because the Mopar oil/filter are marked up

- I know what oil is going in my truck

Funny your mechanic said not to use valvoline, because you can buy jugs of valvoline that say endorsed by cummins on them. :)
