The kids at the Shell station at the south end of Coos Bay really get a kick out of handing me my locking cap while I'm digging out the key. Apparently if one grips it from the side, there is enough flex in the plastic to bind up w/ the core and the unit may then be unscrewed.

The part number I have is MOP-05278655 (Geno's Garage). Anyone have a recommendation for a better one, perhaps the non Mopar one listed below for about $5 less? Actually, it's kind of funny, but I'd like to make it a bit more difficult for the casual thief to make off w/ my $3. 39 / gallon black gold.

Genos sells an aftermarket fuel door that locks. It is the aluminum or chrome look that you can get from Mopar. Put it on with some locktite and no one is going to get the door off without an allen wrench and a lot of torque.

Iv got the locking cap from Dodge on mine and I installed a different gas door.

After the door install, its kinda hard to get the cap off as the room to get your fingers in is smaller. My door isnt the locking type but it probably should be.

They are rather cheaply made. I dropped mine, and the key tumbler fell out. Took about 30 seconds to put it back together. Maybe I'll use that as an excuse to put a polished door on it. "Honey, look at this. I have to upgrade the fuel door now, so nobody steals my fuel. " :D

Yeah, they're like all the cheap plastic crap that Wallmart sells.

Pump jockey bet me a buck he could get it off in less than 5 seconds. I lost.

That sucks... especially since I have one sitting at the house waiting for me to install it. Mine's from Geno's as well :{

Me Too got one from Genos and have'nt installed it yet:confused:
So maybe I will look for a different one.

Geno's Locking Gas Caps

Yep. I bought two Locking Gas Caps from Geno's Garage due to fuel theft in the neighborhood. Nah, let me tell it straight... . they steal anything and everything in this neighborhood, not just fuel.

Well, I know Geno doesn't make these caps, but they are really cheap plastic. I did have the key tumbler fall out on one of them and I just snapped it back in.

If you guys find a better locking gas cap, let us know out here in CTD land.

I'm not faulting Geno, but the product is cheaply made. Buyer beware on this product.

Byron :)

Try AMI locking fuel doors, which I am thinking about. locktight the screws and it will be harder to get to the fuel than a cheap locking gas cap. There are 190 reviews on the item at the linked site and most seem very happy with the product. Other places sell them as well, however, this is the first one I found to link.

Brandon,

Thanks, that's great customer service I'm just going to keep using mine, since I live in a relatively safe neighborhood, anyway. There isn't anything you can do about the quality of the cap. Somebody just needs to come out with an all metal one, (if there isn't one out there already. )

HMMM. The wheels are turning, now. :D

Brandon must understand Spanish :-laf

Geno's is a good outfit, I'm sure they will take care of you guys that are having problems.

Hey, y'all, I wasn't raggin on Genos. Mighty nice of them to offer refunds. I'm still using my locking cap too. Will probably do something else someday, but for now, I'm pretty safe as long as I don't go to Coos Bay.

Next, gotta figure out how to install my Widga Digit (Genos) as Ol Frosty is just a coupla months away.

Thanks for all the replies.

Man those kids must have some strong fingers! I just went out and tried to squeeze mine from the sides and I couldn't do it. Guess I'll keep mine too! It's at least somewhat better than the stock one. Of course, I probably voided my fuel system warranty by installing it! :-laf
