So the old jeep dealer i worked at is loosing jeep, so my old parts boss is selling his filter etc at cost, i can get 6 mopar filters for 64 bucks. are they better then the better fleetguard? should i jump on that? any thoughts?

That's a good question.

In the past, Mopar filters were re-badged Fleetguard filters. However, I don't know if they were the stratopore filters.

Recently, I read that the Mopar filters were actually made by Fram. Now, I don't know if those are the filters for their cars & gasoline powered engines & not the diesel engines. From what I hear, the Fram's on the diesel engine are not good, at all. Not much media in them & the media is not very strong & can possibly be torn apart by the oil pressure & spread out throughout the engine. Those parts have ended up in the squirters that spray the bottom of the aluminum pistons to keep them cool. Then, the pistons heat up & self destruct.

I have no way of knowing for sure that the Frams are really that bad but, have heard enough to stay far away from them just to be on the safe side.

I don't know the answer either but Cummins designed and built the engines and Cummins owns Fleetguard who designs and builds filters for Cummins. I've never purchased anything but Fleetguard filters from Genos. I've always heard the TDR rumor that MOPAR filters are simply rebadged Fleetguards but like Buffalo above, I don't know. $8/filter is a discount but not an earth shaker.

I buy Stratapore Fleetguards for ~$9. 50 at a big rig repair shop. I've always heard that the Mopar is made by Fleetguard, but it isn't the Stratapore media. I personally wouldn't be interested.

I also understood the Mopar ones to be rebadged Fleetguard filters. Since I live so close to a Dodge dealer, I have used the Mopar filters in all four of our Dodge trucks since our '92. I've never had a problem related to them.

Here is where I buy all of my filters. Cheapest prices on Fleetguards that I've found anywhere, and orders over $100 have free UPS shipping (continental US) right to your door.

My local Cummins dealer just charged me 16. 00 for a stratopore for my 05. That was double from a year ago... .

They said they lost their discount? I will be checking for other sources...

Unless they (the dealer) are no longer associated with Cummins... Fleetguard is actually part of Cummins Filtration.

Cummins dealers are expensive. Find you local Kenworth, Mack, Peterbilt, etc dealer/repair facility and buy from them. Ask if there is a commercial account you can buy under and pay cash or CC. Best prices that way. They'll like you even better if you buy a few at a time.
