I just got 4 Quarts of Mopar Synthetic Gear Lube

No dealers in my area had any in stock So I cant help to wonder what they are "topping off" the 03 Difs with... .

The PN is #05102232AA the label says

FORMULATED FOR USE ONLY IN HEAVY DUTY DR 2500/3500

VEHICLES AND AXLES PRODUCED BY AMERICAN AXLE.

I will guarantee you they are using dino oil. When I got my first '03 the rearend was low so I went to the dealer for the fluid and my friend in parts gave me dino lube. He is usually on his game but at the time no one was sure, not even TDR members if the axles were synthetic or not. I bet alot of dealer are still unaware that these need synthetic oil.

Rear end oil

Change mine today what a awesome cover gasket both front and rear. 75-90 syn ams0il 5 gallons $150 used about 2 gallons. Front was fine rear had a little gray color, Their must be some water finding its way in somehow. proabley was coming in around cover gasket,a little permatex should take care of it.

TWestphal,

I would not worry about water getting into the rear diff. It seems that most guys noticed their oil looked gray when they changed it.

Although, it could mean we all have water getting into our rearends.

Rosco :D :D

Rear end diff

I agree Rosco, I have seen it before,Although the trucks with goose-neck and the 5er have more because the box is cut open and more water falls on top of the axle.

Uh Oh, thats not good since I plan on getting a fifth wheel in the near future.

Hmmm, I wonder if Geno's sells some sort of shower cap for the rear end. Maybe I could get a package deal, the Mag- Hytec diff cover and the shower cap for 10% off. :D :D :D

I'm thinking of switching to Amsoil for the diffs when I change the fluid. I see where Amsoil has an AGR, and a TGR. Both are for 75w 90. What type of Amsoil 75W90 are folks using??

I use royal purple front and back, good stuff, but i think most all are good anyhow just got it on sale so i bought that , I will re-check and drain fluid at same interval as i did with the factory fill and not the differences in smell and metal flake on the magnet

Suggested retail for the 05102232AA is $20. 45 per quart. Someone must be using it, because the parts guy said the average weekly demand for that part is 892 quarts.

Shell Spirax "S" 75W90 less than $5/qt. in 5 gallon pail. Certified up to 750K in big truck trans and rears. No grey crap here, very nice honey color and really smells like gear lube.

Up DC's tailpipe for $20/qt.

Am I reading this right? The stock diff covers now have a gasket so you don't have to fool with the permatex anymore or am I misunderstanding something.

If so do you have to buy new gaskets at every change or are they reusable.

Sorry for the silly questions, but it is Monday.
