Bought a hood liner from Dodge house today. Purchased for $40 bucks. The parts guy gave me 12 fasteners. I didn't think anything about it until I went to pay. I looked at the itemized price sheet and noticed the $21. 67 on the page. It was for the fasteners he gave me. What a rip off! I told them that they could keep their fine plastic fasteners and bought 15 fasteners for $5 dollars at Auto Zone.

I wonder how much they took me for on the hood liner... .

When I priced one, I happen to bend over the counter and read his computer screen. Price to a garage that gets a discount looked like $32. ??. I may have my buddy order it through his body shop, then pick it up and pay cash.

I figured the best way to handle the hoodliner was to not buy one. Had one on my 2000, can't really tell any difference from a sound stand point.

Just add it to their list of over priced items... . Fuel Filters? Come on, $45!?!:--)

We deal (in my business) with a machine manufaturer that lists in their parts book an 8/32 x 1" oval head machine screw- stainless steel, for $1. 15 a piece. I guess if you're willing to pay, they're more than willing to charge ;) .

What really sucks is when it's a manufacturer specific part that can't be had elswhere:{ .

I needed a dime sized o-ring for a Kubota tractor, try as I might couldn't find one even the wrong size that would work or the right thickness that I could glue to the right diameter. Kubota wanted $12 for it, I was stuck.

Had to put a new carrier bearing in my old Chevrolet truck a couple of years ago. Dealer wanted $110, got an aftermarket for $20. Appeared to be the same exact bearing.

Towpro,a lot of dealers will give you (shop discount) if you ask. I work at a shop PT still. I ask for it,almost always get it. Just ask them to sell it to you at shop cost+tax, its usually 20 off. I even have an account at my dealer(GM and Chrysler) so I get the discount every time. You dont need to own a shop to have an account here, you just need to buy a few times a yr.

Why should you have to have an account? Why wouldn't they just be honest about there prices and not gouge the customer? Seems like I'm less likely to go back to a dealership when they are trying to take me for more money.

Mopar morons... . that's what I think of them.

You dont need an account to get shop discount. When I was in Fla this november,my u joint went bad. I went into Daytona Dodge, and they said 68 bucks, for the U joint. I gulped and asked it he could give me shop discount,I walked out for 58 bucks with tax. It would have been like $73 with tax without it. It was a very nice dealership BTW.

Snow Man's right......

All you have to do is ask your parts person. I get 15% off at my local Dodge dealer, and I'm not in the auto business in any way. Can't hurt to ask. -

Jim.
