Belt replacement time

I'm not certain how long they are expected to last by DC standards, but I can give you my . 02 worth. Other vehicle's I've owned went well past 100K before new belts, but on my Ram I needed to replace it at about 85K. It was well worn and ready to go away. 40K seems like a short time to me. Maybe Bill will chime in. He seems to know something about every subject brought out in this forum.

My stock belt went over 100k, the only reason I replaced it with a Gatorback was to stop the shut down squeal. The old one looked good enough so I kept it for a spare. Sometimes the belt tensioner will wear at it's pivot point causing the belt to try and ride up on the pulley side, greatly diminishing it's life. If you take the belt off the tensioner there should be very little front to rear play.
