Tranmission fluid

Demise of Sterling Trucks -----

anyone here have any experience in changing out the manual transmission fluid in a mid 90's dodge/plymouth neon? i heard horror stories of using anything but dealer-purchased and very expensive MTF. would a good synthetic gear oil work? my car runs fine, but at 91,000 miles, it has never been changed...

I can't help you with much, but you can try going to amsoil.com and looking in their online application guide. Amsoil would probably be very good in this application.

Which transmission does it have? I doubt it has something like the NV3500, too big, but it could be something similar. If so, Amsoil Synchromesh MTF should work fine.

I went to the dealer :{ last week and purchased 3 quarts of Mopar MTF # 4874465, NV T350, at $20 a quart. #@$%! I could have cheaped out, but the sticker on the transaxle id'd the part # identically, and the guy at NAPA actually seemed a bit hesitant about selling me an off brand transmission fluid. So, I changed it all out on sunday, put in 2 qts. , and I need to top it off soon. The manual states 2. 3 qts. Of course an extra . 3 qt. Why not? Make us buy that 3rd qt. #@$%! But if nothing else, at least noone can tell me "told ya so!"
