Hi,

Newbie Question.

I have just purchased a new 2500 SWB White Sport. I was looking at the Mopar tube steps listed in the accessory catalog. The ones that cost $475. Had running boards on the last truck thought I'd try the tube steps on this one. I was told that the tubing that they are made from is actually Aluminum. I would have thought it was steel. Aluminum would be great since there would be no chance of rust. The steps are suppose to be available in bare (aluminum?), black, or chrome. Can anybody confirm or discount this please? Also if anyone actually has them what do you think of them? The price of $475 seems reasonable since they are suppose to fit with no frame drilling.

I also purchased the Mopar bug deflector. That works good but the fenders still seem vulnerable. Has anyone used the Mopar fender bug shields? How far do they stick up above the sheet metal? If anyone has these what do you think? Has anyone used the 3M clear film for fender protection?

Thanks for anybodys input.

I have the Mopar tubes in chrome on my truck. Have not had them long enough to have a durability opinion, but so far I really like them. They fit fairly close in to the truck - compared to Ford factory steps that stick out too far, IMHO.

One benefit of Mopar over another brand is that if purchased when your truck is new, they are covered under the 3 year/36K bumper to bumper. If you install them yourself (I did), only the parts are covered. If you pay dealer to install, labor is covered under bumper to bumper also.

If you get them, remember left side is driver, right is passenger. Lost a couple hours figuring that out the hard way

I have the Mopar chrome aluminum. So far they are holding up fine. You might check e-bay. I got mine for $356 shipping included. Install them yourself. Takes about 30 mins. with simple hand tools.

Why not just take your money and add a little more and get Putco bars? They are the best, made of Stainless Steel, and come in many different styles to suit your taste. The Dodge bars are cheap imitations that everyone gets because they can throw it into there loan/lease, and not have to worry about the install. Putco bars will last you as long as you have the truck. The stupidest thing you can ever do is put something on your truck that you know will rust. Grill guards, nerf bars, tail light guards, bed caps, all should be made of stainless. Same goes for the exhaust, that would seem to be more obvious, but most don't get it. Sure Putco is higher then the rest, but isn't most good products? In the long run, they will work out to be much cheaper.

Bought the chrome aluminum one from an advertiser on this forum . Paid about 375. 00 with free shipping and no tax. Install was easy . First side took about an hour and next side about 15 min. Holding up well and look good

I've got the Mopar Tube Steps and like them alot. They survived a trip up the Alaska highway without a rock chip in the chrome. It is a high quality step that I would not hesitate to purchase again. Like wyosteve said, install in about 30 minutes, really simple job with basic hand tools.

I installed MAAP wheel to wheel stainless steel on mine. Decent price, $393 /w tax I picked them up from the supplier locally. Once I got my bearings with the pics on the instructions, they installed pretty easily. Even for an idiot like me. :D

tube step alternative
