Anybody out there retro-fit a set of these brakes to their trailer?

I'd sure like more stopping power.....

Here's the email return I got from the company.

The Disc Brake will stop you in a 30 % shorter distance than will the Electric Brake. The pump used will generate around 1600 psi to the calibers. Some of the other advantages are:

Performance

-No brake fade when wet

-Dissipates heat as opposed to drum brakes that retain heat. That means can do a lot more aggressive braking before experiencing brake fade due to heat build up. -One moving part compared to 9 in the electric brake (fewer things to go wrong) -Replacement parts can be picked up at a local automotive parts store. You must locate a Dexter dealer to get parts for Electric.

The cost of a kit for tandem axles is $ 1,799. 00. That includes everything you need to installed the system. The installed cost is $ 2,299. 00.

I looked at the hydraulic disk brake option when I ordered this trailer. I decided against it because the electric brakes were larger on the optional heavier axles that I did order, more complexity (pump, hydraulic lines, calipers with rubber components), parts would be more difficult to obtain, and electric brakes are easier to service/replace for the DIY crowd. However, for those that have trailers with marginal brakes (assuming you have checked for problems) the research that I have done does show that disk brakes have superior stopping power for a given axle size. Check the dexter axle site for more info. I believe MorRyde sells the Dexter system.
