I bought my 03 L/B 5speed used about 2 months ago. Soon realized the a/c was acting up. The first problem was that the air would not come out the correct ducts all the time (sometimes feet instead of face etc. ) I removed the dash and fixed the flap that directs the air between the lower ductwork and the dash ductwork. That problem is fixed. (this was not the same flap in the tsb) Next , the temp difference between left and right sides ,along with evap freeze up. My local shop said the temp probe was the culprit. Ordered part, had system emptied, removed dash and air box from firewall. Installed new part, dash, had system recharged. Still had temperature difference (side to side). Thought the freezing problem was fixed, however, after a road trip, it was discovered that it will freeze up. It just takes much longer than it used to. Cannot see any reason for the temperature difference but did read that there is a recommended new location for the temperature probe in the evaporator. Can anybody tell me what the new location is?

Don't know! Memo came out to D. C. dealers or I should say the tech that did mine called Star(Tech assistance)and they told him via phone. You need to talk to a good D. C. tech that does lots of ac work or the 05 up evaporator has it already installed in the new location etc.

Seems like a fairly large reoccuring problem..... ought to be a recall IMHO.

Does anyone have, or can explain, the new probe location???

Bump.

Lots of A/C problems... . one of which is the temp. probe on the evaporator.

Got a little info on this recently:

"Larry -

I spoke with our service manager, and he clarified the issue. You are

correct, you need a new temp probe. As far as relocating the probe,

STAR mentions relocating it "may help", but that is only if the original

location has been hogged out by careless removal of the old probe. Mitch

mentioned moving it about an inch in the few cases they have moved the probes.

BE VERY CAREFUL when you remove/insert the probe, it is very easy to

damage the evap. since they are paper thin.

Good luck, hope this info helps.

Mike"
