about 3 weeks ago my left rear outer axle seal started leaking. The original had 135k and 12 years on it so i was statisfied lol. got the seal replaced by a local shop as i did not have the time to do it myself. the shop also checked the axle itself and advised that it was fine, no groove etc. i had also checked the axle vent prior to taking it in and it was free of debris.

three days after the axle seal was done i noticed that the rear pinion seal was literally hemorrhaging fluid. again after the milage and time on the truck plus the very hard winter we had i was not surprised. had the same shop change it out.

today i noticed that the same left rear outer seal started leaking again. it had not leaked until today as i have been checking it periodically checked the fluid level and it is not over full.

any ideas what could be causing the seal to crap out twice in a month after no problems for so long.

thanks

I had similar problems and found the axle vent was plugged. I unhooked it from the axle tube and tried to blow thru it with negative results. I then used my air hose gun and gave it a quick shot and heard a pop. The hose was then free of a clog and have not had any problems since. Hope this helps! Charlie.

You certainly have low expectations. The only time I have had to replace the outer axle seals was around 800k and pinion seals last over 300k easily.
