I recently installed a 4" straight pipe system on my 2001. Are there any mufflers that I could install to make it sound more throaty(louder is ok, I'm old school).

Back in the day used a Donaldson Muffler on my 98 12v do a forum search and you should find some old posts.

I don't mind going louder, I also wonder if each generation of truck has a inherent exhaust sound. Seems like I hear different tones from every truck I see (idling, acceleration, being passed on hwy). I think maybe those with the huge echo chamber tips are the loudest. I might be searching for a tone that's not available to me. I grew up with Cherry Bomb mufflers on all my gas trucks, I miss that sound.

I think you are looking for the 3rd gen sound. With the split exhaust manifold they sound great, a pulse like thunder sound. The 1st and 2nd gens have a raspy farm tractor like sound.

If you split your exhaust pipe with a split tee it will sound like a 3rd gen. Not just a y but a genuine split in the tee. It will have a divider in the inlet.

My raspy '01.

My split tee on the Ford/Cummins.
