I'm still troubleshooting the erratic speedo in a 92 W-250 5 speed.
The mechanicals are all good. I tightened the contacts on the connector at the t-case and put dielectric grease on them. I looked at the back of the instrument panel, but since all the gauges are plugged in two large round connectors, I didn't mess with it (don't know which wires are for speedo).
Now the weirdness--if I'm driving and the speedo doesn't work, I can turn the lights on and it will usually (not always) bounce around then work. I called the PO and asked him. "Oh, I forgot to tell you about that. " Ok. Sure. But he said it's worse in the winter and usually if you hit the dash it will start working (but it didn't work for me when I tried).
That seems to indicate the speed sensor is not the problem, do you agree? Does that only leave the speedo itself and grounding issues?
