i replaced lift pump 9000 mi. ago . just replaced fuel filter two days ago . i have a stainless steel 0 to 20 psi gage on the out side of filter . it has been reading 14 to 15 lbs. at idle . today pressure going from 15 to 6 lbs. any else har this on new pump?
actually it may have been going out for a while you just did not know, if you had a cab mounted guage you would have been able to monitor its slow death 14-15 to 10-9 to 5-6 to at times 0 then 0 all the time. this is a quite common problem if you been reading regularly some of the members have been using after market pumps and mounted near the tank and so far i dont think we have come up with a conclusion as to the best system but the experiment is going on.
Possible cause ? is gauge mounted direct to filter outlet (post or Pre?) If so move off filter with fitting and hose (fuel) will do mount to location away from eng . Also if you add a small office to the line or gauge fitting 2/32 " will do it. The manual for the 99 states 5psi is ok after filter ? Hope this helps , Ron in Louisville KY
