Before installing pw inj. max boost was 20# and max pyro temp post turbo was 750*. After installing pw inj. max boost is now 24#-25# but max pyro temp is now 600* making a similar uphill wot run. Could there be a problem with pyro gage? Shouldn't it read higher with more power? How can it be checked for accuracy?

When I had Wentland Diesel install an upgraded VE pump on my '93 I saw a very good power increase with a drop of about 100-150 degrees in my egt's. My boost dropped about 2 lbs but the new would really smoke the old.

Bob, I think yours is a totally different situation from Rdodd's. I don't have my PW injectors yet, but from what I've read, with all other things being the same, bigger injectors *should* result in higher EGT.

Rdodd, could it be that your '92 is an early one that came from the factory with bigger injectors than the PWs? The fact that your boost is higher seems to indicate that you are getting more power with the PWs. Was there a major difference in air temps when you saw the difference in EGT?

Mike

My 92 is the intercooled model with the small inj. The outside air temps were about the same. I can't get over 600* now no matter how hard i push it. Maybe pyro is acting up, but it returns to about 90* when cold just like it used to. rdodd.

The increased power will not always increase your exhaust temps. True more fuel to burn more heat, but that is being transferred more efficienty into HP instead of heat in the exhaust. The newer injectors may have also affected your injection duration/timing and improved the engines use of fuel.

The only thing to check would be the timing and maybe your Pyro, but 600 does sound a little low, even post turbo.

Email PowerWagon about it and see his response.

I ran with larger injectors for 3 years and my egt's were higher than with the factory injectors. It was after I upgraded the pump that my temps. dropped so you are right about the larger injectors producing higher temps.

My problem must be the pyro acting up because yesterday while pulling my 5th wheel the pyro went to 750*-800* instead of the 600* i posted, under similar conditions. What could cause this variation?

New injectors and pump tweak lowered my EGT from around 1100 to 900 degrees. This is with the travel trailer pulling a grade. Empty on level ground, running around 550 degrees.

Oh yea, boost is around 25 PSI @ WOT when towing.
