MORE POWER with no $$$$!!!!???

Here is a question about something one of my friends told me (he is a 24v er). I figured that this would be the best place to find out the facts because I don't know much about the 24v. (i'm a 12v er)
He said that one of the guys at the truck accessory shop told him that if you unhook the battery for two hours. Hook it back up, then drive it through all the gears harder than you ever have that it would "reprogram" #ad
the computer to allow more power to be produced. on an auto it would "reprogram" the engine as well as adjust the shift points and the firmness.

I personally think that the guy is full of S#@%!

I feel kinda dumb asking a question like this but this is my only source for the information to proove them wrong or maby get prooved wrong?

I could be wrong, but it sounds like DOOKIE to me. The rumor I have heard, which I am unsure of it's truth is that during break-in on an ISB the 'puter gradully steps up the power at set mileage levels... is that one true?

I've also heard that the 24v also has set break in mileage points that change the programming,that also sounded like DOOKIE. Seems like something like that would play havoc with the add on boxes everyone uses. Thanks Joe,I like that word.

This is the same story I heard during a dark period in my life when I was a Ford owner. (smiley for head hung in shame) The story went that the computer program would change at 10,000 miles. Also if you unhooked battery for awhile, computer would relearn your driving habits and optimize performance. #ad

Some cars do that though. My dad works with a guy that bought a Z06 vette a few months ago. He knew the car was fast when he bought it(if you consider a vette "fast" lol) And recently jumped on it do discover that it broke the tires loose in second gear and continued to the next gear. He calls the dealer and they told him "Oh your computer just took the car out of break in mode" I would think that they would tell someone this when they bought the car. Another reason GM= GET MOPAR

All untrue lies! Those are just rumors you're hearing. I've owned two 24valers and they don't kick in at a 10k mile break in.

good one, Wier, actually the obdII computer technology does "learn" driving habits for optimum performance and ride comfort. generally it takes about 25 trips for it to settle on a pattern. with that said by unhooking the negative battery cable the pcm will default and then start the "learning" process all over. we use to use a device on the ford Mustangs called a "stinger" that did just that. it was used to make a pass down the 1/4 and then sting it to reflash the eprom to default for the next run.

it is also my understanding that the Dodge ram uses an OBDII or III PCM. thus making the forementioned "true"

Great. . now a bunch of us are going to start disconnecting our batteries and then running our trucks hard? All I know is that after the EPA ECM program change (early 24 valvers... less power, lower mileage, more smoke), I tried it hoping to reset the ECM to it's defaults. No such luck. Anyhow, interesting post.

My experience on this subject has been first with my 92 318 Dakota. I drove the p>>> out of it right from the git go and it has run strong since 135000 miles on it now. When I bought my diesel in Oklahoma I jumped in drove the p>>> out of it to LasVegas and it runs very strong at 10000 miles I love it!!!!!!!

I tried it and it works. All I had to do was disconnect the batteries, Install a PE, EZ, 275s, HX40 and 4" exhaust and a few hours later hook the batteries back up and BAM 350HP, maybe the longer you leave the batteries disconnected the more power you get

My last trip my ETH picked up 3 to 4 lbs boost and ran like a scalded cat. It just turned 10,000 miles. Is it just my imiganation?? There was no mistaking there was more drivable power and boost. The truck is alvays loaded near 20,000# combined weight. #ad

I agree with WeirCummins (actually, after driving his truck, I call him Rocketman!) and can attest to the fact - if you do what he said, you will notice an amazing difference in power. I will say that after owning two 24Vs and driven each more than 10,000 miles, there was no difference or "break-in" reprogramming that I have experienced.
