I have a brother with a 1990 Diesel that is pretty gutless. It is all stock and has not had a enough pulling so the moter may be glazed a bit because it seems like it doesn't have it like my 95. How hard is it to give it a little help such as opening up the pump or something. Nothing to radical, doesn't want to put a lot of $$$ in.

Turning up injection pump, priceless... ha ha

Seriously, the housing and exhaust alone will really help your truck out. Turn up the pump and install your injectors, whoa more power. I am very happy with my truck; see signature, which is mildly warmed up and intercooled.

What is the problem with the stock housing? How big is the factory exhaust pipe on them? If turning up the pump is free, why would a person not do that first?

Don't have to spend on the housing to wake up that ol' girl. A little tweaking of the pump, dropping the god-aweful muffler and tail pipe and installing a good air filter. Ran for 2-3 years like that till I changed injectors.

Reach under the box, just above the axle and grab the exhaust, notice that squished spot? And in 89-90 the muffler only has 2. 5" inlet and outlet, talk about back pressure!! I spent about $2-300 on the exhaust and filter, then turned up the pump and wow, new truck. The pump adjustment instructions can be found at the TST site or at Fritz's technical page. Both give a good explanation of how to tweak the pump. Don't go too radical, or gauges are gonna be the next have-to-get expense.

Good luck...

dsiemens,
The reason every one changes their housing is due to it's large size. The 16cm^2 housing is smaller in size then the stock one so there is less turbo lag which is a nice bonus. The turbo simply spools-up faster because now the same volume of exhaust gases flow through a smaller area hence the wiz wiz under the hood #ad
