Happy Festivus!!!

Six weeks ago I heard beeping from my pacemaker (I've had one since I was 29), I called the Dr's office and the device lady said "your battery voltage was ok from the last check and there is a recall for your device for false alarms, so dont worry about it". Today during a routine check they discover the beeping I heard 6 weeks ago was the low battery alarm. And today I am near battery exhaustion.

They are locating a device and will schedule surgery for replacement. They say I have 2-3 weeks of battery life left, but if the battery dies so do I :(

The Dr is top notch and very sharp but I would feel better if my TDR family was keep heavens switch board busy (unless you are asking for me to be sent home :-laf ).

It is very un nerving to be pacer dependant and have a low battery alarm AND live one hour out in the country.

Thanks

Scary stuff

TD

I'm not normally a praying man but I'll get to work for you. Best of luck to you. I think for the surgery you should go in with one nipple labelled (+) and the other (-). see if they get it?

Prayers to You Tex

Saying one for you Tex. Keep calm and don't give the ticker any reason to get excited. Keep us posted. .

Jim

Tex, prayers are on the way. I wish you a speady recovery, and a longer life battery!

Please keep us updated as to how you are doing.

Tell your wife she is also in my thoughts.

George

Here is the schedule, next Wednesday I get a new device and a much improved one too. The one I have presently is made by the company you have been hearing about lately for their devices going bad and killing people.

Sure be glad to have it gone. These devices had a 99% rate for not failing until the latest generation from Guidant.

Now just to make next Wednesday...

Thanks for all your support and prayers, one more week then should be ok.

I send one on the way to keep you here. Since Gary isn't posting anymore, I figure there won't be any to send you home. :-laf

I'll certainly pray for you. What necessitated a pacemaker at such a young age? What problem does it cure?

I had a faluty A-V node that caused very fast V rates. No evidence of A-V nodal re-entry however.

Anyway, I was the 64th person (I was told) to have a then new RF Nodal Oblation.

Aint modern medicine wonderful?

Whoa! Is that engilsh? ;)

What's a "V rate"?

Does the pacemaker restore you to "normal" functionality? I mean, can you exercise and stuff like any other person?

:-laf V rate = ventricular rate

Yes, I function normally. The pacer paces the Sinus Node in the upper chamber, so my rate goes up and down just like normal.

Think of it this way, I have an electronic A-V node.

You know, I'm sure to you this is quite a disability... but I think it's kind of "cool" in a way. You're sort of like a bionic man.

-Ryan :)
