Competition More pump or more injector?

Competition Eric McB might be friendlier to the fords...

Competition exhaust temps wierd

i run a 911 pump tweaked to just over 400cc @ 3k, with extrude honed 3 flow injectors. The sps66 really cleans up well on top and does a nice job cooling. i am looking for more from this setup on #2 only. So, what do i need, more pump or more injector? other opinions?

Thanks,

Dave

I would have to say you'll probably want more injector. Your pump sounds like it is definately supplying enough fuel and then some for larger injectors. Maybe time for some of the extreme injectors from PDR for example.

Thanks for the reply Joe,

At this point i think i am looking at $1000 injectors versus a $3000 pump :--) so some experienced opinions are gonna be great :-laf don't really want to throw money at it until i am sure i'm heading in the right direction.

Dave

Even a set of 370 injectors can flow enough fuel for up to 700hp. Just need enough pump behind it.

How big are the delivery valves?

I vote for the pump. Once I got to 85hp injectors, going bigger has not raised my hp. The difference between 85hp injectors and 175hp injectors was about 10hp and 150 deg egt. Bumping the pump output works everytime for for me. My 887 pump is at 420cc now, II says it has another 100cc available without changing plungers and barrels. Probably only a couple hundred dollars to bump up vrs 1200 for a set of injectors.

I am running 191's now. I am about to switch back to 181's to see how they effect my trap speed and egt.

Sell those 191's on the TDR classifieds... . which should be no problem. Then call JR Adkins @ 317-281-3130 and get a set of his laser cut DV's. Talk about FUEL! :--) and if you already have your pump turned up then you will definately notice a increase. I hardly ever use 1/2 throttle unless I'm trying to get around a car or something. ;)

I have a HTT 64/14 and I can't even clean up the smoke under WOT. :-laf

somethings not quite right because 400cc of fuel should be 600 hp plus @1. 6hp/cc of fuel and I can't really see a sp66 cleaning up that much fuel. I would get a good pump calibration and see whats really going on. YOu are only looking at around $450 or so for an average price to calibrate and that should fix your problem. If not another 240 or so and you should have all the fuel you can stand with a cut set of DV. Take these together with a set of 370 injectors and its all done for 1050 or close to it.

I'm a supporter of bigger injectors but I do like the idea of taking the pump to the stand. As mentioned above there are some good ideas. 370s are good injectors for the money but they are out dated (remember I have a set too) When you get serious about injectors you will put those in the tool box as spares... ... ... you would not even believe the ones I got in the mail today... ... . and yes I'm going to test them on a stock pump.

I had this pump calibrated in feb 06, thats how i know its pushing over 400cc's now, and these are extrude honed stage III 370's i am running. why would it need calibrated again?

Dave

Hey Jim,

I will call and see if i can pick Brady's brain :-laf for a minute or two. It's been really busy around here lately and its always too late when i have time to call. Thanks for all the replies everyone.
