I put a used 160 pump on my truck. It lopes sometimes when it idles back down and it is very weak. I put the #8 plate in it located just like it was in my old pump. The throttle is hard to push even though I used my old linkage and it was not hard on the old pump. Could a bad or weak gov spring cause the lope, hard throttle and very weak power? Any help is appreciated.

Did you adjust the arm that hits the fuel plate? Sounds like it is hitting the plate where it is not supposed to. That could cause the throttle hard to push plus it might not be going all the way down on the plate which mat cause the loss of power. Just a thought.

That was something I thought of also. I guess I 'll have to get the book out and look at the old pump to figure out how to adjust it. I'll gladley except directions from someone who has done it because you guys can give me some tips to make it easier.

Thanks,

Brian

There are good instructions for adjusting the arm on the Piers web site.

www.piersdiesel.com

It isn't real difficult. Be aware that the adjusting screw can be backed out too far and it will drop into the pump. #@$%!

Don't panic though because it can probably be retrieved with a magnet.

Update...

I pulled the AFC housing off and the governor arm seems to be hitting the plate at a high enough spot as shown on the peirs page. Still very week and a hard throttle. Loping has not occured in a little while. I'm going to try tightening the gov springs sometime soon and see if that may be the problem.
