I was approached today about trying a "New" product called Xp3. It is a fuel additive that is suppose to do miraculous things... ... .

Has anyone ever heard of this stuff or used it?

Well, the distributor brought by a 4 pack that will treat almost 500 gallons for me to field test.

I just filled up this afternoon(125 gallons) and have a 600 mile road trip tomorrow. If everything falls into place, I will burn the 125 gallons this week. So we will know shortly... ... ... ...

I'll keep you informed.

Barry, do you know what your truck would get for mileage on this type of trip? Have you made this trip before? It'll be interesting to see what you get, but if you don't have a "control" number, your info won't be all that helpful, unfortunately.

MChrist,

We have excellent control. Last year we made the very same trip 57 times. This year we have made the trip 3 times... ... ... ..... next week, 2 times.

So control is good. The variable is the size of trailer I will be pulling. The control I will use the most, is coming back empty. The truck runs 18 mpg empty @ 68 mph. (HHC)

The engine is running smoother... ... ..... but thus far I have seen NO appreciable difference in fuel mileage... ... ..... time will tell.

So the marketing suggests 10% as a good number to expect? So if you were getting 18 mpg, you should be expecting close to 20 mpg. Time will tell.

MChrist,

You are absolutely correct, twenty(20 mpg) is the magic number I am looking for. From what I understand, buying in the 4 pack retails for $50. I bottle(4 oz. )($12. 50) treats 120 gallons. I am very skeptical that 4 ounces of anything in 120 gallons of fuel can make that much of a difference.

They did tell me that I might need to run a full tank of treated fuel thru the system before I would start seeing results. So therefore, I cheated a bit and added 6 ounces to the first 120 gallons... ... ... . it is suppose to do wonderful things to the fuel system.

I have only driven 1,000 miles with the treated fuel so far. I will knock out the other 1,000 on this fuel next week.

But I am very skeptical. It does however seemed to run better, smoother.

I agree, there is no way that 4 oz of "anything" is going to cause this magic chemical reaction in 120 gal to change "anything".

Nick

Anyone read the compensation plan and such on the left side of that homepage ??? Sounds like a typical pyramid scheme to me . :p 1 oz. to 30 gallons ... . heck, I've put a pint of some potent stuff out of a METAL container that didn't sem to do anything to either of my rigs .

X2... I took a look at the link and noticed the marketing plan on the lefts side and immediately thought that this stuff is likely BioDiesel and Cetane booster beign sold under a MLM scheme. Nothing wrong with a little BioDiesel and cetane booster in the tank, but you could just get some of Amalgamated Fuel Inc. TDR-blend and forgo the marketing hype.

I have been adding 1 gallon to my 500 gallon farm tank for 5 years or so now. The tank gets filled once or twice a year... my truck runs great... Lots of people here use it, thus the "TDR blend". It comes in either summer or winter formulation, my being in Ca where it rarely gets below 38* F, I simply run the summer blend all year round.
Here are a couple of links...

TDR-S : Amalgamated, Inc.

Diesel Fuel Additives, Biodiesel Additives, and Custom Fuel Additives Products : Amalgamated, Inc.

Don't know whether it costs more or less then the "snake oil", but it is well respects here on TDR, and that's enough for me ... It comes in quarts or 2. 5 gallons or 5 gallons, though not single gallons for some s/h logisitcs.

Barry, you have to order directly from Amalgamated. Can't tell you the cost becuase it changes as shipping prices change. Best thing to do is to talk with Randy at Amalgamated, as he is the guy who handles the smaller orders. Here is alink to their contact page, you can email or simply call--

And here is a link to other threads on TDR about Amalgamated Fuel additives--

Sorry I don't have any more specifics for you.

Heard from the folks at Amalgamated. With freight, 6 quarts of product would cost $65. 00.

If I could buy the product locally, I would give it a try but with $20 bucks shipping hung on to the price of $44, it just gets out of the ball park for me.

Now have close to 1400 miles on this tank(125 gallons) of treated Xp3 fuel. Will finish out the tank today and start tracking fuel mileage next fill up. As far as mileage goes, thus far no appreciable difference... ... ... ... however, I was in some horrible winds in South Florida yesterday so that would skew any numbers I would be trying to track on this fuel.

Time will tell, but I am very skeptical... ... ...
