I have a 95 ctd. I just recently learned about the timing slipping on these trucks. Mine hasn't been done as far as i know. I have the star wheeled turned with a #5 torque plate and the afc and plate all the way forward. where should i put my timing and what was it from the factory. Is there any other place to get the tools other than snap-on. Thanks Sam

If you look on the engine build data plate on the drivers side of the timing gear case, in front of the injection pump, there should be a square on there that says what the timing is supposed to be from the factory. From what I have read, 15. 5 degrees BTDC is about optimal for fuel mileage. Much more than that can start approaching the red zone for cylinder pressures with the stock head gasket. Someone who has a bombed engine can probably give you some more pertinent info based on your mods.
