I wrote about this already in the Events and Rallies forum, but I thought this was a better place.
Some of you may know my history of truck failures at TDR events. I'm 3 for 3 now. I ALMOST made it through the dyno event yesterday without a hitch. On the way home, my left front wheel bearing siezed up.
There wasn't much warning at all. The truck started wandering as if a strong crosswind was blowing, or the road was severely rutted. At about 65 mph, the tire folded inward at the top and things got a little hairy until it stopped. Driving 65mph in traffic with only one steerable tire and no brakes is not something I want to experience again.
I got it apart and everything on that side is melted and ruined. It looks like I can reuse the axle, but that's the only salvagable piece. Bearings, rotor, mounting flange, u-joint all shot. What a mess!
Check those wheel bearings!
