Just wondering if this is normal after testpipe and Aerodyne(sp?) straight through exhaust, as wel as AFE II. I like the sound, dont get me wrong, just wondering if others are enjoying this as well.

Thanks.

Yes, it absolutely is... By AFE 2, do you mean a stage 2 with torque tube? If you do, that is the setup I am running right now with my truck... I HATE the AFE stage 2 torque tube! It is absurdly noisy and is overpriced. Not only that, the rubber boot that links the turbo to the tube has melted. I have contacted AFE and they have talked a good game, but still have not sent me the replacement boot.

I will say this again, do not waste your money on the AFE stage 2 with torque tube. It is a waste of money. I am going back to my stock hose with a AFE stage 1 with pro guard 7.

I am extremely disappointed with AFE. Even more so because I do believe that they make quality filtration products... . They have missed the mark with the torque tube!

Cheers, Bill

Well, I went for the stage 2 since I was able to buy at wholesale. I do see your point, though. It was some high priced plastic. I was happy with fit and finish, though.

But it is insanely loud.

Has anyone put the turbo silencer back in after the stage 2 install?

Did it quiet it down a good bit?

I am guessing it wont but if someone did this please share your experience.

P. S. 1st post!

I had stock intake with baffles removed and silencer ring removed. That was a bit louder, turbo whistle wise, than stock. Then I put in the AFE Stage 2 and it was very loud inside the cab. Too loud almost. You can really hear it even over the radio.

When I was lining up the Super B I was told that one thing about that turbo is that it is a lot louder than the stock one. So I was thinking once it is in, I might go back to my modified stock intake (which also had a lot of added air holes in the box) because if it got any louder than I already had, it was going to be way too loud.

Turned out the AFE stage 2 tube does not mate up with the Super B so I had to use something different anyway. The stage 2 tube is plastic and I didn't want to go hacking on that tube to make it fit.

Decided on BD X-Intake since the shop had one in the house when the turbo install was happening. That one is similar to AFE and uses an AFE filter (smaller than the AFE Stage 2). It reuses the stock elbows and has a different tube.

Now with the louder turbo, inside the cab it sounds like it did with the stock intake and the silencer ring removed from the stock turbo. Very understated. Just enough so you can hear it doing its thing.

Outside on the other hand... ha ha ha! I drove over to pick up my buddy the other day and he said he heard me coming from a block away. And what he heard was the turbo. If I have the rear windows open, I can hear the turbo out the tailpipe end over the exhaust. So all is well in the realm.

Here are some pics of the BD intake. The box is shiny stainless steel. I think the filter is the same size as the stage 1 filter.

To add to BILLUA's complaint about the AFE rubber boot for connecting the stage 2 tube to the turbo. Mine didn't melt in the time I had it but it could certainly have been a bit longer to make installation easier. Man I tell you, they got it down to the millimeter. An extra 1/2 inch would have made me very happy the day I was installing it. Also, the plastic tube did not line up exactly right at the box end where you bolt the tube to the box. At first I thought I was not going to be able to get it to fit at all, especially with no flex available at the turbo end due to the #$#%#@$ boot. Eventually I got it close enough so I could get the bolt in but the tube was not sitting nice and flat against the box.

ok i went looking at afe stuff, local shop couldnt find a stage 2, but had a afe2 with a proguard7 and without, what would be better ? its a $60 difference

the afe2 came with some sorta pipe, the reg. one did not, reg was about $250 cheeper, what would be best to go with ?

i would like the turbo louder, cant hear it over the mbrp duals :(

I am not concerned about the noise inside the cab, given if the turbo whine is louder outside. I am still stuck on the Ford turbo's sound, especially straight piped.

Anybody know where the cheapest AFE Stage 2 Kit is available from?
