I have been noticing a problem at idle with the power steering. I dont have any sometimes. anyone else have this and how was it fixed? Is the pump going bad or the box or the fluid?

With my BFG's and low inflation pressures (in the low 40's), my steering wheel won't turn at a stop. Inflate to 50psi, then they turn no problem.

My Toyo M/T's seem to be less susceptible to the problem. I think it has something to do with all the biting edges on the A/T's.

mine does it too but it is intermittent i think  but not sure if it is cooler weather, thicker oil , or lower tire pressure, but i will bet it is the tire pressure

I can hear my ps pump talking a little bit when the weather is cooler. I checked the fluid level, all is ok. Figured it was from the fluid being a little bit thicker.

Getting my pump and steering gear replaced next tuesday for the same problem. The pump going bad also affects your brakes. Something to do with the brake booster. I went in to ask about the hard steering and the service manager didn't even question me. Apparently this is pretty common. Go get it fixed.
