12v into mid '70s 3/4T 4x4?

Any unique Cummins conversions for sale?

Last week was auction week for me. At the auction was a very unusual motohome. It was a '98 Mountain Aire by Newmar on a Freightliner chassis. The thing that made this unit so unique and UNdesireable was it was a FRONT engine diesel. It was a 12 Cummins hooked to an Allison. I was surprised that it brought over $50K thru the ring as most of the wholesalers there said they(front engine diesels) were almost "sale proof".

The thing that stuck in the back of my mind was... ... ... ... ..... find one of those in an RV salvage yard... ... ... say it had an interior fire. Buy the engine and trannie as a whole unit and drop in in something like an F550 Ford. What a combo that would be!

I am in search of an elusive out of date landing gear for a 5th wheel that I just got in. I think I'll ask the salvage yards while shopping if they have any front engine Cummins Motorhomes they are parting out..... hmmmmm... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... .

I tell ya, I've been around motorhomes for about 8 years and I've never seen such an animal... not to say they don't exist, but *I've* never seen one, especially on a Freightliner chassis.

Most of 'em have generators up front, and some of those are diesel powered, others are LP powered.

Guess you learn something new every day, huh?

The front-engine style seems to be preferred among the racing crowd, it's used as a tow vehicle for a stack-type (one car above the other on an interior lift) race car trailer. There's plenty of them around Kentucky and Indiana.

What's so "undesirable" about them? I'd rather have to work on one of those than on a diesel pusher motorhome.....
