What is the newest most current lifter pump number? I just installed an electrical fuel pressure gauge that reads post filter and it is reading about 11 psi at idle. I should have around 20 psi if I am correct right!? SO I was going to order the lifter pump before I took it in under warranty so that they woudl have the pump there.

I don't know the DC number but the Cummins number 3990105. I just replaced my dead pump. I have 15# at an idle and it drops to 11# at WOT.

I believe 20# at idle is to much. From the reading I've done, it says VP44 doesn't much like anything above 16#, and new lift pumps are supposed to be giving us about 15-16# at idle. Mine is showing 11-12# right now, but is still running fine. I'm just keeping an eye on it.

So should I be worried? Is mine ok? SHould I have it changed? Should I change it myself? Will it be ok when I add the 275 injectors to what I already have? ARGH!! Sorry I aska lot of questions.

Bigstick - your pump is o.k.

Bigstick:

Just took my truck into the dealer this week for another issue (poor mileage) and the tech checked my lift pump. Between the Tech and Star I guess the new specs are something like the following using the following procedure.

1. Check for codes (no codes found)

2. Check pump at idle should be greater than 8 psi. (mine was 5 psi. )

3. Check pump at WOT should be 8 psi min. (mine was 4 psi)

4. Install vacuum gage and check supply line, post and pre-filter. (mine was o. k. )

5. Replace lift pump.

So as the story goes, if you have at least 8psi at WOT Dodge has determined that your pump is o. k. Mine was only 5psi at idle and 4 psi at WOT therefore they replaced the transfer pump under warranty. In my case the Tech was on the ball and caught a FAILING lift pump before I got stuck out in the Arizona desert.

Part number used was 5080885AA

Actually cummins has a new part number for the lift pump 3990106. . but it has not been released from the manufacture yet. This was as of april 29th. I had to buy the 3990105 and the little pigtail wire harness (4025182) for it. Hope this helps. The pump cost me $143. 95 and the harness $7. 95.

I think that the 3990106 is a 24 volt version. I just bought my pump (3990105) on 4/30/02. Because my truck is a 2001 I didn't need the pigtail, but I bought it so that I can use it to tap into the fuel pump circuit when I install a booster pump.

Just out of curiosity, how many revisions has the lift pump undergone since the introduction of the 24v in '98???
